Recipe Directions

  • 1. Place pecans alone in your food processor and process until the pecans become small and crumbly.
  • 2. Add dates to the raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture sticks together and the dates are well processed.
  • 3. Add the remaining ingredients to this raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture turns a lovely dark chocolatey brown. Stop processing before it gets too buttery. (There should still be air between the small bits so that you will be able to press them down into your brownie pan.)
  • 4. Dump the mixture into a brownie dish or small cake pan and press down firmly using your clean hands.
  • 5. Refrigerate this raw brownie recipe for a couple of hours. You do not have to refrigerate it, but it is much easier to slice when chilled. By the way, this is actually a raw brownie recipe that keeps its shape! So it can be good for serving to non-raw fooders because the presentation of this raw brownie recipe is good when chilled.
  • 6. Store this raw brownie recipe in the refrigerator if it lasts that long!
  • PS: For an even more delightful brownie, serve it with this easy, instant raw chocolate icing.

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Raw brownie recipe -- finally, a raw brownie recipe that tastes like REAL BROWNIES!

I am quite surprised and amazed at how the texture of this raw brownie recipe resembles real brownies--especially after this raw brownie recipe is refrigerated for about an hour or even longer.

My husband thinks this raw brownie recipe needs chocolate icing, but I disagree. I think it's perfect on its own! (But it is true, everything is better with raw chocolate icing on it.)

You can also use this raw brownie recipe as a pie crust or as very chocolately raw truffles.

Good luck trying to keep this raw brownie recipe around for longer than 24 hours. This vegan recipe would be good for about eight small servings. Feel free to double the recipe if you want more or if you want to make it last longer. (I usually double it.)

Advanced optional tip: Throw 1 tablespoon cacao nibs into the mixture after processing and before squishing into pan for fun crunchy texture!

I've got a question, and I'm sorry if you've covered this somewhere else but I'm looking for advice. I do not have a food processor and I'm wanting to get one for some of these recipes (I have a Ninja 6-blade blender so I'm thinking that wouldn't work for things like brownies or other drier blend-ups). What size processor should I be looking at? I think 2 cups is obviously too small, but I wonder if the 10-cup ones are too big for making recipes like yours.

So, what's an ideal starter size for a food processor?

Thanks! Love, love, love your website. I saw a girl buying almond milk at the store and wound up giving her your website after telling her it's cheaper to make it (especially if you use things like almond flour or want some fun recipes for the raw pulp). She immediately took out her phone and went to your website to check it out. :-)

The frosting was thicker than the brownie : ) Both together were very good and a nice treat. The brownie holds together nicely.

These were delicious and the only brownies completely gobbled up (a double batch) at the event I took them to that had several other brownie offerings. I'll be making them regularly (with icing!). I used half pecans/half walnuts and only 1/8 t sea salt, which I could absolutely taste, so I think 1/4 t would have been too much for me.

My question is about the weight/volume measurements. I prefer to cook by weight, so was using my scale when making these, but since it was the first time, I was also comparing it to the volume measures. On the cacao, I was 28 g with only FOUR Tablespoons. (The recipe says 5 T or 27 g). I went ahead and used close to 5 T as I didn't want to sacrifice any chocolatey goodness, but has anyone else had this kind of variation? I wouldn't expect cacao powder to vary that much.

This recipe was very simple to make. I love that all of the ingredients are readily available, and already on my shelf. Very decadent and certainly I hit with our family.

I have a question, and maybe this is a no brainer to all raw foodies...??? lol Do I need to soak the nuts and dates? I was going to, but didn't see it in the directions, stopped to ask. I'm excited to try this recipe! Sounds delish! <3

I have always hated dates. Couldn't stand them. I was afraid to try raw cacao because I thought it would be absolutely yucky.

Based on the comments here I proceeded with the recipe and anticipated having to throw it out after the first taste.

Boy was I WRONG! This is the BOMB! I love it! I made it with the raw icing and it's fantastic. Hits the spot for a brownie more than a baked brownie! So much goodness in this recipe.

If you're not sure, make this recipe and be amazed!

This looks delicious! And after reading all the comments I can't wait to make it tonight. I do have one issue... my daughter is allergic to tree nuts and peanuts. Can this be made without the nuts? I always feel so bad for her trying to eat raw, Her allergies make it difficult :(

Try replacing the nuts with sunflower seeds. I haven't tried it myself, but they have a very similar makeup as nuts so I'm betting they will work.

Hi Ayanna,

Aah, that's too bad about your tree nut situation! This recipe cannot be made without nuts, but these two recipe categories will be of interest to you :) xox

Just made this! I snuck a little taste before putting it in the fridge! YUM! my coconut flakes were pretty big, I think I will use my smaller more shredded ones next time. Im going to chill this and try to resist eating it for a few hours till after dinner... I will top with the chocolate icing since thats what I have on hand, but i would love to top with a fruit spread sometime too.

We unfortunately have a nut allergy in my household - but are okay on peanuts. I subbed out the nuts for peanuts this time. Super yummy! I think the more chocolatey recipes are easier to swap out peanuts and wont affect the taste so much. I can eat nuts so I will remake this with pecans next time too.

Thanks so much for all the yummy recipes!

Hi Razieh -

No, do not use almonds or hazelnuts instead of the walnuts.

(But, you can use pecans or cashews instead of the walnuts.)

FYI: The reason why you shouldn't use almonds/hazelnuts is that they are not as oily as other nuts, so the recipe won't turn out the same way. More info here :) https://www.therawtarian.com/rfp05-nut-substitutions

I just started the 30 day Raw Diet a week ago. I found your site and I am in love ..... did I tell you I am in love? I never thought I could have so many choices of healthy treats with great tasting meals as well. I tried these brownies first and they are DELICIOUS! I got my boyfriend and my daughter to try them and they agree. Every day I have been experimenting with a different recipe from your site and I have yet to be disappointed. These brownie though......absolutely the best.

I do have a question....has anyone tried using organic raw figs in this recipe? I have a bag at home and wondered if there was a recipe to use them. I don't have an issue with dates it's just that I didn't want the figs to go to waste since I already have them.

God bless you and thank you for sharing your recipes for all of us to use.
