Recipe Directions

  • 1. Put chia seeds in bowl. Add water. Stir thoroughly RIGHT AWAY otherwise it'll clump up.
  • 2. Add honey and coconut and mix more with your spoon. Chia seeds will absorb a lot of water really fast and thicken up.
  • 3. Add anything else you want, like 1/2 tablespoon pumpkin seeds, a few almonds, 1/2 tablespoon sunflower seeds etc. Just for taste and to give it some excitement.
  • 4. By now your raw chia porridge should be pretty thick.
  • 5. For extra pleasure, top your raw porridge with cashew milk and fresh or thawed blueberries.

Raw porridge is a perfect way to start your morning! It's great because it's super quick - think 4 minutes or less.

Most mornings I'll start my day with a silky green smoothie. However, if I'm in the mood for a litte more excitement I'll perhaps have raw cereal, raw oatmeal or raw porridge :)

I like to keep both whole chia seeds and milled chia seeds on hand. I use milled chia seeds in this recipe, but in many of my raw chia puddings I use whole chia seed.

PS:  You can use either whole chia seeds or milled chia seeds. Milled is best but whole will do. "Milled" just means ground. If you have a clean coffee grinder that you use for nut and seed grinding you can mill your own.  But you can buy pre-milled chia seeds too. If you can only have one type on hand I'd go for whole chia seeds.

I really liked the recipe. It was simple but flavorful. My calories were a bit much at 800 but used 1/4 cup of almonds. At this point, this is not going to concern me as the nutritional content is so much better than what I would have had otherwise.

I tried this but mixed it with your cachew milk instead of water (leaving the cinnmon out in the milk recipe) and leaving the honey out as the cachew milk was already sweetened. It turned out to be the best chia recipe I've tried so far. Thanks so much!

try half chia seeds and half oats. I mix them with water the night before and then loosen with almond milk in the morning and top with cinnamon and granola. Yum

This is an excellent breakfast to have in hotel. Take your dry ingredients with you in a small jar, add water and sliced fruit at the last moment.

I was wondering if you could answer a kinda weird question. Do you know how to maximize the water absorption of chia seeds? I have seen them in some preparations (not mine) and they get pretty big and look like tapioca (clearish). When I make them, the seeds poof up a little bit, but they are still within their shells and are slightly crunchy. The almond milk does get gelatinous.

Am I doing something wrong?

I didn't have any honey so used maple syrup- sprinkled cinnamon on the top before freezing- hmmm tastes amazing!!
