Recipe Directions

  • 1. Process almonds and cashews in a food processor until they (almost) resemble flour. Add dates, agave nectar, coconut oil and vanilla. Process until well mixed and doughlike.
  • 2. Add the cocoa powder and sea salt and process again.
  • 3. Form into cookies. You can refrigerate and eat as is, or dehydrate them for a few hours for a warm, gooey fudgy experience!

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

These are the best raw chocolate cookies that I've ever had. It's a bit touch and go whether they even need to be dehydrated at all, since the batter is quite dry and conceivably you can form them into cookies and eat as is or refrigerate so that they firm up even more. But when dehydrated for a few hours they get gooey and warm and they're so good! They will never get crispy though (due to the coconut oil), so if dehydrating don't bother dehydrating for more than a few hours.

This recipe does require a number of ingredients, unlike this simple lemon cookie recipe. But the flavor is worth it, because sometimes you just need that chocolatey fix.

I especially recommend eating these cookies warm. The insides are gooey and fudgey while the outside is kind of crispy. It's a perfect fix if you're missing the comfort and flavour of fresh-baked cookies!

If you're looking to really replicate a delicious, fatty-tasting cookie, make sure to add the coconut oil. It really makes or breaks these raw chocolate fudge cookies.

I skipped the vanilla, used cacao instead of cocoa, and didn't dehydrate, and these were still incredibly delicious. I Just formed the dough into balls and refrigerated them. They taste like brownies. Yum.

This is the very best chocolate raw vegan cookie recipe that I have seen in years! This is so delicious.

I used raw coconut butter instead of the oil.

I placed a few in the dehydrater for 2 hours at a 100 degrees but I was so greedy that I took them out and should have left them in a longer to make them crisper at least another couple of hours. BUT THEY WERE STILL DELICIOUS.

Great recipe and thank you for sharing this with us.

Your recipe calls for cocoa powder...not cacao powder?

These are so good and easy to make!
Since someone mentioned leaving the cacao out, I used 1/4 cup instead of a half, so good!
Also I added a few T. of coconut water to moisten it and make it stick. I will be rolling it into balls in coconut shreds or hemp seeds, but so good just as it is!

Thank you!

I'm so glad that the recipe turned out well for you, Tammie! How'd the rolling go?

Also, have you ever made my raw brownies? They're similar, but different... and good :)

These are delicious and so easy to prepare! We've been trying to reduce sugars and grains in our diets. These have been a life savor for satisfying cravings for something sweet. Even my (picky) little boys ask for them every night!

I'm so glad you and your boys like this recipe, Moddie.

This exact same recipe also works well as a pie or flan crust (just squish the batter firmly down into a pan instead of shaping into cookies). Another variation to try! Nice with a simple topping of sliced bananas, for example

I made these today, but added stuff because they were too gooey for me to bring to my class this morning. (Probably because I have a Vitamix and no food processor).

I added about ½ cup of coconut flour (to absorb some of the liquid)
added 1 cup chopped walnuts
added ½ cup roughly chopped uncooked oatmeal

That did the trick!

I tried the dough before adding the chocolate and salt and found it amazing. Next time I'll make them without the chocolate.

I posted a link to your original recipe with my picture of the cookies on my Facebook page: Vegan Cooking Club, so I cited my source :) Have a sparkling day. From a chilly, cloudy Istanbul, Turkey winter morning, Brooks.

I was excited to know the recipe prep time was only 10 mins. I was equally excited to know I had all of the ingredients. So, I made them tonight...and they were SO good! I've been experimenting with raw recipes and trying testing them out on my 17 year old son. He gave this recipe two thumbs up!

Much nicer than I thought they were going to be. Very pleased, will definitely help with the naughty cravings. The only downside is that the ingredients are quite costly, but you can't put a price on health :)

Those look delicious, Charlotte!

I feel you about the price of ingredients, but if you purchase in bulk it's not as bad. Plus, once you have the ingredients in the house after a first big shop, it doesn't feel so bad :)

As always with every recipe here, these are so delicious! For anyone curious about using different nuts, I had a bunch of bags of opened nuts and seeds I needed to use so I measured 2 1/2 cups of them and it came out fantastic. I used almonds, sunflower seeds, cashews, walnuts, pine nuts, pecans and hazelnuts. The hazelnuts gave it a Nutella taste, which was so good. And I think I only had about a half cup of the hazelnuts. I ended up adding a bit more maple syrup. Probably because the combination of nuts wasn't as sweet as almonds and cashews, but left everything else the same. Yum!
