So I have a sweet tooth and love the just sweet enough semi-raw acai sorbet Sabazon makes but wanted to experiment making my own without the cane juice. I tried this out and loved it! It's not too sweet either. You could add a second tablespoon of honey, if you need to. As for the coconut oil/butter, its optional....

Recipe Directions

1. Place all ingredients in a powerful blender and blend until smooth.

2. Add a little water to achieve desired consistency.

You could add a second tablespoon of honey, if you need to. As for the coconut oil/butter, its optional. Important: do not add too much because if you do, it overpowers the acai in a negative way.

Optional: Try freezing it to make your own sorbet.

Indulge!

After reading another post on this site, I did a little research and found that Amazon-Mania is the only brand of RAW acai in the US. Everything else is pasteurized and/or contains soy lethicin and other preservatives. Amazon-Mania's product is acai pulp, which is the closest thing you can get to the berry off the tree. They have 2 products and according to them, AcaiRaw is 100% raw and contains only acai and purified water. AcaiTwist is 90% raw and 10% evaporated cane juice, citric acid and guarana extract. Although I am 95% raw, I tried Twist and it is absolutely delicious. Nevertheless, I eat Raw every day. I blend it with raw cacao, a banana and a splash of apple juice (i juice my own). YUM!!! You can find it in Whole Foods in NY tristate area or you can contact them at http://www.amazon-mania.com for other retailers or if you want to buy it direct. In fact, I just had them ship me acai, as they’re having a sale on Raw thru April 30th.

If I had to pick one of the two you mentioned I'd probably say agave. But I personally do not advocate using either. Stevia might be a good substitute.

If you want to get the berries off the trees you have to go to Brazil. The environment is so harsh there that the berries decompose rapidly. This is part of the reason the acai developed the highest antioxidants ever identified in a living food. There are 3 grades of berries, 1 being the best. These berries are either frozen, spray dried or flash frozen. The acai in Mona Vie is flash frozen which ups the antioxidants considerably. See Dr. Alex Schauss, Acai The leading researcher and Authority on the Superfood Acai berry. Also Mona Vie contains the whole fruits of 18 wild whole fruits from around the world, featuring Acai puree with “Optiacai†which is the acai that the labs and researchers purchase from Monarch Health Sciences in it’s powder form. This is grade 1 acai in it’s purest and safest form. Only Mona Vie has the patent pending optiacai.he acai in Mona Vie is concentrated along with added acai puree and the whole WILD fruits of 18 highest antioxidant, low glycemic fruits in the world. There is nothing else added. No water. Hands down, this is the one you want. This is also the one that was in every Oscar basket, Wolfgang Puck, Clint Eastwood, Jonathon Papelbon of the Red sox and many others drink.

Back to the recipe, What is Irish Moss gel and why do you use this? Also, does anyone have a gelato recipe for acai. I am experimenting with Mona Vie. Any gelato recipes???

Do you have an idea if agave or dates would substitute for the honey in this recipe?
