Recipe Directions

1. Add ground sesame seeds, water, sweetener, vanilla, and cinnamon to blender and blend well.

2. Pour contents of blender into a strainer over a bowl. Add 1/8 cup chia seeds and stir.

3. Put in fridge and take it out to stir every 10 minutes or so until the chia seeds have finished releasing their yummy gooey goodness. It shouldn’t take longer than half an hour to be fully ready to eat.

Reesh's Thoughts

By Reesh

When chia seeds come into contact with a liquid, they emit this lovely goo, which surrounds the seed, that really resembles tapioca pearls.

You could use any kind of nut milk really. I just really like sesame seed milk and so does my toddler--she gobbled it up and asked for more!

I made this last night, and I have to say that I didn't like the sesame milk. Even though I added enough sweetener, it still had a bitter taste to me. However, my non-raw boyfriend gobbled it all up! I think i'll experiment with different milks and additives other's have used. Thanks though!

Didn't have sesame seeds left, so I just blended in a little tahini (so no need to strain the mix). Tasted fantastic! I'll be making this again.

I didn't have any nut milk ready, so I make this with my black chia seeds, vanilla "RAW POWER" and some agave. It looked a bit like caviar (a dark black-grey) but it was *tasty*! Thank you for the idea!

Reesh - I just read the article and I will definitely pick some up at the health food store. I've seen them and wondered what people do with them - apparently they make tapioca pudding, which sounds great for my daughter, and smoothies. The article makes them sound like the gel you add to your potting soil to absorb and release water, except for your body.

They don't have a flavor that you would notice. They take on the flavor of the liquid that you put them in. Salba, white chia, costs more, but looks more like tapioca. Chia seeds look like poppy seeds.
