Chia seeds were used by the ancient Incan soldiers during their long expeditions. Many of them would only consume 1 teaspoon in water.

Chia seed forms a gelatin, when placed in water, which allows the body to remain hydrated for longer periods of time.

This gelatin, which is actually soluble fiber within the seed, also soothes the body's organs and creates a barrier between carbohydrates preventing spikes in blood sugar.

Truly an awesome food.

I heard that Salba was the white chia seed from someone else here on the site. I have been making a tapioca pudding with chia lately and just love it. Never before did I even think about how they might be healthy or beneficial but they truly are a superfood!

I love the name of this recipe and I love chia puddings.

Yes Salba is chia seeds but I was told Salba is white because they have bred out all the dark seeds. Weird.

Hi Salba is just a patented name for white chia seeds. They are no better foryou than the black super seeds. This gel sounds really good I will try it myself. I normally make mine with Pomegranate juice this to is really nice before a run or any exercise. With the quality raw chia seeds from www.buychiaseeds.info always posted first class. Will report back after I try this power gel.

Its takes about a half an hour. The longer you let it sit the thicker the gel becomes.

How long do you need to have the chia in water before it forms the gel? I'm just wondering if it's a 'night before' type of food.

This sounds really good! Do you know is Salba (brand name) are chia seeds? I thought they were, and the girl at the natural store -said- they are, but she didn't seem too sure... and they've been very wrong about things like this before... Just wanted to double check!
