1 cup cashews

3 cups water

2 tablespoons agave nectar (or honey)

2 vanilla seeds (or 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract)

A tiny tiny tiny tiny splash of almond extract (optional)

1 teaspoon cinnamon

pinch sea salt

Directions

1. Blend the cashews and water in a high-speed blender. I use my VitaMix blender, which is the best blender in the world! Blend very well so that the liquid resembles a thin milk.

2. Add the remaining raw cashew milk recipe ingredients and blend again.

3. Drink this delicious raw cashew milk recipe and experience heavenly bliss! As mentioned above, your raw cashew milk can be drunk straight, or served as a milk substitute in cereals and other recipes.

PS: If you have any left over raw cashew milk from this recipe, try making raw chia seed pudding with your raw cashew milk recipe.

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

Raw cashew milk recipes do not come close to this sweet, almondy cinnamony raw cashew milk recipe.

Raw cashew milk can be used for many many purposes in your raw food lifestyle.

I tend to drink this cashew milk as a delicious sweet treat, perhaps as a dessert, or I serve it over home-made dry cereal or I even splash a 1/4 cup on top of a bowl of my raw oatmeal.

If you have all these ingredients on hand this recipe really only takes a minute to prepare. Cashew milk can be stored in the fridge for a couple of days, but I would reblend before serving it in case any ingredients settle. But a batch of raw cashew milk doesn't last long in my house anyway!

Please let me know how you like this recipe and any ideas of how you like to use this raw cashew milk recipe.

This sounds great! I looove almond extract. It reminds me of Christmas.

The Rawtarian's picture

Me too. Although cinnamon reminds me even MORE of Christmas.

I am working on it! Please subscribe to my email newsletter to be kept in the loop re: when it's being released. Thanks for your interest!

Hi Laura!
Are vanilla seeds the same as vanilla beans? Thanks!

The Rawtarian's picture

Yes, sorry for the confusion!

Hi
quick question,
Do you soak the cashews first?, and if yes, how long?
Thank you I can't wait to try this

The Rawtarian's picture

You don't have to soak them, but you can :)

HI there,
I have a 15month old daughter who I think is allergic to cows milk! She comes out in a rash on her face. I certainly dont drink cows milk, so am wondering why I give it to my daughter.
What do you know about giving nut milks to young children? I have heard that nuts are hard to break down in little bodies, but im guessing soaking the nuts would help this process?
Any info would be great! :)

The Rawtarian's picture

Hi Mel! I don't know very much about it.

However, you should definitely check out a woman, "Shazzie." She has a ton of info about raising her daughter, Eva, raw.

Oops, her daughter's name is Evie

Laura-Jane, do you drink soy milk ? I am very worried about the high fat content in using so much nut products, do you have any other suggestions or helpful hints??

The Rawtarian's picture

No, I do not drink soy milk. In fact, I don't drink much "milk" at all. My daily diet doesn't really call for it, nor do I miss having a milk-like drink. When I do want some, I drink cashew milk, but that's very rarely--perhaps once every 2 months.

I agree that it's good to be concerned about too many nuts. However, some nuts in your diet is a good thing! It's all about picking and choosing how you want to incorporate them.

I generally don't have any nuts in breakfast or lunch at all, but I do tend to have some nuts during dinner and for dessert.

What do you need "milk" for?

I love this more than store bought soy or almond milk. It is SO GOOD! We've been making with with out almond and vanilla extract and only 1 tablespoon agave. THANKS!

The Rawtarian's picture

Glad you liked it James :) Pretty easy too - huh?

I just made this recipe last night and am so in love with it. Yummy

The Rawtarian's picture

:)

i love making cashew milk/cream. I make the best pasta rose.

question, how long will this milk/cream last in fridge in a closed glass container?

The Rawtarian's picture

Probably 4-5 days

What's pasta rose?

hi, I have cashew nut milk in the fridge that I forgot about and now has gone thick and a little sour can I make it into a no- bake cheese cake with agar agar..it must have been there about 7days, or should I just chuck it?

The Rawtarian's picture

Hmmmmm. I would chuck! But perhaps someone else can chime in on this one if they feel otherwise?

DW made Cashew milk Thursday last, yesterday (Saturday, approx. 60 hrs), it had gone thick & stringy, like it had polymerized (consistency of a stretchy dough, but still 'pourable'). Still tasted good, but probably not keeping it 'til we hear from more people. 3cups wate to one cup nuts, she maintains nuts were fresh...anybody?

The Rawtarian's picture

Weird! My cashew milk doesn't do that.

Probably best to toss it out (sorry for delayed response!)

Hi folks, if you are having problems with your cashew milk staying fresh, using sterilized glass containers with air-tight lids should help.

The Rawtarian's picture

Excellent suggestion Aimee

Hi Aimee, my cashew milk went off in 1 night...:( It was in an airtight container...I did soak them overnight and then only used then later that day....do you think that was the cause?? Thank you!

The Rawtarian's picture

Yes, I find if you soak for too long things go haywire

Lovely recipe! Thank you!

The Rawtarian's picture

you're welcome Katya

Do you need to strain the cashew milk?

I didn't. As long as you have a high quality blender, (Vitamix or Blendtec) you should not need to do so.

The Rawtarian's picture

Agreed :)

Smooth and satisfying are great descriptors for this drink! I was very glad to find your recipe, which included the ingredients I was looking for - agave nectar & cinnamon so I didn't have to guess with the proportions. The almond extract was an added plus.

The Rawtarian's picture

Glad you liked, Janice!

Hey lj

Me again ;) just a quick q - you make your almond milk with just almonds and water, yet cashew milk with these added extras - is this because you use this as a 'dessert' version, ie do you make regular cashew milk with just cashews and water? In nz organic cashews are cheaper than organic almonds, as the cashews are from Vietnam while the almonds are from (super expensive) Australia! So cashew milk is going to be cheaper for me as a fridge 'staple' :)

The Rawtarian's picture

Hi Buffy! You are lucky that cashews are cheaper than almonds in NZ!! You are exactly right that I use the cashew as a dessert version and the almond more as a blank slate. So it is definely okay to make a simple cashew milk - for example, maybe 1 cup water to a third cup cashews?  Make a small batch and see how you like it

My son-in-law put me on to making my own nut milk. I just put nuts. (Cashews in this instance in my Bullet and cover with water. Give it a whirl and it is delish. You can add other stuff but not necessary. I drank some and I put some on my oats.

Thanks so much for this post, I'm very excited to make my milk today! Also very happy to have found your site!

The Rawtarian's picture

Glad to have you here Ashly! Hope your almond milk turns out well :)

Love it!! Thanks... I added vanilla creme stevia to cut the sugar but super yum

Do you normally soak your almonds/cashews before using them in your milks?

Posted from The Rawtarian App

The Rawtarian's picture

Hi Pam, I'd say that I soak about 50% of the time. Depends how lazy I am on the day :)

I made this using my Vita-Mix with honey and vanilla extract. I didn't have almond extract on hand but it turned out delicious! Whole Foods carries raw cashew milk made by BluePrint Juice (very similar to this recipe) for $9.99 for 16 oz. This is much cheaper to make and just as yummy and nutritious. Thank you for this recipe!

The Rawtarian's picture

Hi Mabel, love a good Vitamix! I have one too. Glad you enjoyed this cashew milk and that you are able to save money with it too!

Thank you so much for the recipe. First say this at whole foods with the same exact ingredients for $12.99!!!! I checked the back for the ingredients and found it to be a simple recipe. Glad i stumbled upon your site, really helpful. Tried it with almond, which was absolutely delicious. :D

The Rawtarian's picture

Hi Navdeep, glad to have you here :) And very glad you like the recipe. Much better than $12.99!!!!!!

Hey there, I am new to the raw lifestyle, and although I have been doing only two months so far, I love it. However, afraid of not having enough protein in my diet, I do use a lot of nuts. I eat nuts every day a few times a day. I make cheeses and breads, and crispy apple with almonds for breakfast for example, and granola. I see that you don't use much nuts in your diet. Can you tell me your food ratio? what is the percentage of your veggies vs. fruits vs. nuts? and how bad is to have raw cacao every day. In place of coffee I drink raw cacao with cinnamon and agave for breakfast in the mornings, and sometimes through the day a few times. Sorry for all the questions, and thank you in advance!

Hi Haydee

Re: plant-based protein listen to my podcast: http://www.therawtarian.com/rfp13-vegan-protein

If you want to know more about what to eat on a daily basis you might want to consider joining www.therawtarian.com/TRK I have 30-day raw meal plan in there.

I do tend to use quite a few nuts. In fact, I am often criticized for it :)

I was wondering if it is necessary to soak the cashews? I've tried a few different nut milk recipes that require soaking the nuts, so I just wasn't sure if it made a difference or not?

The Rawtarian's picture

Hi Kimberly, it is not necessary to soak the cashews in this recipe
