1 cup pecans (you can use walnuts in a pinch, but pecans are much better!)
1 cup dates
5 tablespoons raw cacao (cocoa) powder
4 tablespoons shredded unsweetened coconut
2 tablespoons honey or agave nectar
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
Directions
1. Place pecans alone in your food processor and process until the pecans become small and crumbly.
2. Add dates to the raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture sticks together and the dates are well processed.
3. Add the remaining ingredients to this raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture turns a lovely dark chocolatey brown. Stop processing before it gets too buttery. (There should still be air between the small bits so that you will be able to press them down into your brownie pan.)
4. Dump the mixture into a brownie dish or small cake pan and press down firmly using your clean hands.
5. Refrigerate this raw brownie recipe for a couple of hours. You do not have to refrigerate it, but it is much easier to slice when chilled. By the way, this is actually a raw brownie recipe that keeps its shape! So it can be good for serving to non-raw fooders because the presentation of this raw brownie recipe is good when chilled.
6. Store this raw brownie recipe in the refrigerator if it lasts that long!
PS: For an even more delightful brownie, serve it with this easy, instant raw chocolate icing.
The Rawtarian's Thoughts
Raw brownie recipe -- finally, a raw brownie recipe that tastes like REAL BROWNIES!
I am quite surprised and amazed at how the texture of this raw brownie recipe resembles real brownies--especially after this raw brownie recipe is refrigerated for about an hour or even longer.
My husband thinks this raw brownie recipe needs chocolate icing, but I disagree. I think it's perfect on its own! (But it is true, everything is better with raw chocolate icing on it.)
You can also use this raw brownie recipe as a pie crust or as very chocolately raw truffles.
Good luck trying to keep this raw brownie recipe around for longer than 24 hours. This vegan recipe would be good for about six small servings. Feel free to double the recipe if you want more or if you want to make it last longer. (I usually double it.)
Without further ado, here's my favorite uber-delicious and simple raw brownie recipe.

I love that you mentioned prunes because I am on a MAJOR prune kick right now. To me and my raw tastebuds they taste like grape candy to me.
That whole orange zest addition to the lemon bars sounds AWESOME. might have to try that myself.

Nooo, you misunderstood. I put the orange zest in THESE. The brownies. I loooove chocolate with orange flavor. Actually, I'm not a chocolate person (I know, how strange is that being woman and all) but with orange flavor - GIVE IT TO ME! :D
Oh, and I did the cheesecake too the other day. Delicious too!
Again, thanks for the recipes!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! We're just starting on our raw food journey, and after a couple of weeks I was running out of inspiration - and then I found your website, what a revelation! Have just made the brownies with the chocolate icing - and wow, they're absolutely delicious! Better than the traditional cooked ones by far. They remind me a bit of tiffin / chocolate biscuit cake, so I might try them with some raisins next time.

Never heard of tiffin / choco biscuit cake. Sounds interesting. You mean adding chunky raisins and not blending them up?

Whoa, this brownie is amazing. I am really surprised, since I do not like dates. At all!! But because of all the positive comments, I got too curious and decided, I needed to try it out - and OMG this tastes really delicat and wonderfully chocolaty and not like dates at all. Dates are my new friend! And this brownie is my new best friend! Hurra :)
And thank you!
Best,
Nanna (Denmark)
Btw, I topped it with an alternative frosting, since I didn't have any coconot oil, made of avocado, agave, cocoa, vanilla and cinnamon. If you haven´t tried that one, you really should! Yummi.

Dates have a bad reputation because lots of people grew up only eating those date bars. Not very exciting and way too datey.
Dates just act as a sweetener. That is all. Glad you saw past your date-ugginess and went for it. :) Let a lesson be learned to us all!

Just another comment.. I saw you wrote to another, that theese couldn't be made with a blender.. I don't have a food processor, so I made them with a blender stick (Is that a word in english? Hope you know what I mean..).. And they turned out just fantastic - the kpb was a bit hard to my poor blender, but it survived, though..
*Nanna
PS: I made this to bring to my study group. But they tasted so damned good, that I couldn't bare the thought of sharing them, so I ended up eating the whole batch alone :P

I ended up using walnuts, and it is SO delicious, so I'm curious as to how much better it will be with pecans. This recipe is worthy of endless praise. LOVE that it satisfies my chocolate craving in a much healthier way!

Just finished making the brownies and they taste amazing before even putting them in the fridge. Made the banana bread as well last night and it is way to good. My friend who is also a raw vegan is going to love what I bring her for her birthday.

I made some adjustments, since I live in Haiti and have access to different things. I used raw chocolate (cacao beans that are smashed into chocolate) and young coconut meat, rather than flaked coconut. Delicious!!!! Who would have thought raw could be so adventurous and taste so yummy? Thanks so much for sharing your recipes!

Would it be ok to use prunes instead of dates? This will be my first dessert raw recipe to attempt, and I'm super excited about it ... but I don't want to mess it up! I was curious if there was a taste/texture difference between the two anyways, as I always seem to think they are the same thing for some reason!? Oh, and I do plan on topping with banana ice cream, I hear that's the best!

I came across your podcast and then website the other day, and am loving all the information! I went raw vegan for a couple months last summer, but bounce around between meal plans from day to day and have been off track for awhile. I just made these brownies with the icing and HOLY $*^&!!!! SO DELICIOUS!! They would definitely hold their own next to any dessert out there, raw or not!!

I was craving something sweet today and I came across this recipe. Delicious! I made a few changes though, I used mixed nuts and I used half dates and half prunes; and since I don't have a high speed blender and mine 'struggled' to blend all of those ingredients I added a few tablespoon of coffee left over from breakfast! Too yummy! I cannot put the spoon down, help!

Oh. My. Gosh. These brownies are, hands down, completely and absolutely THE BEST raw brownies ever made! I do not know how I am going to keep my hands off the whole pan. I only now just got done with the recipe and they are awaiting my attack in the fridge. Thank you SO much for sharing this beautiful recipe!

I made these last night as my very first attempt at raw "baking!" They're wonderful! They turned out more the texture of fudge than brownies, but I think I may have simply processed them a little too long.
My husband's comment was, "Well. I wouldn't call them brownies, but they're good." ;)
I was delighted by how complex the flavor is. Real brownies, and most similar sweet desserts, are sort of... monotone in comparison. I'm definitely inspired to keep exploring raw foods.

Wow! I am really impressed. I've come across many raw food websites but yours is the least daunting! I usually have all the ingredients in stock and if I don't, they aren't so exotic that I can't find them at my local market. Also the recipes are pretty easy and not too complicated, in my opinion. I'm always excited when I have the tools/supplies on hand to make recipes that look divine; this brownie recipe, included.
I appreciate that your site is well organised and attractive, which is another reason I keep coming back!
