1 shredded apple
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 tablespoon shredded coconut
1 tablespoon raisins
1 tablespoon almonds or sunflower seeds
Sprinkle cinnamon
1 tablespoon buckwheat groats (optional)
1/3 cup cashew milk (optional) or 1/3 cup water (mandatory)
Directions
1. Shred your apple using a hand shredder. (If making only one or two bowls, I use a mandoline slicer with the shredder attachment. If making this for many people, probably easiest to shred in a food processor.)
2. Place shredded apple in bowl, and top with remaining ingredients.
3. Top with the cashew milk (best) or alternatively use water.
4. Stir vigourously. Within a couple of minutes the chia seeds and shredded coconut will absorb the liqid and you will have a delicious, ready to eat raw breakfast cereal.
Check out my video below to see me make this in person :)
The Rawtarian's Thoughts
This recipe is very similar to my raw breakfast cereal recipe; however, there are a couple of key differences - especially the addition of the coconut and the shredding of the apple.
In fact, it is the shredded apple that makes up the recipe - and gives it a stellar texture!
This recipe is for one person.

Can I use almond milk instead of cashew milk? I know I can, but is it as good and does the almond milk soak up the chia seeds as well?

Yummy! I used Steel Cut Oats since that's what I had. No coconut on hand, so substituted one ring of pineapple for two servings. Hubby liked it, too! This will be made again and again. Thanks so much!

Could I substitute the almond milk with skim milk instead, would that affect the recipe at all? :)
Amazing site, your recipes are absolutely brilliant, and completely fuss-free to boot!

Hi Anu, dairy milk isn't raw, but really you could use any time of "milk" on top - just like any breakfast cereal the choice of milk is yours and it won't really affect the recipe much. good question

I had this for a snack last night (with almond milk) & again for breakfast this morning (with water & added 1 tbsp of ground flax seed for my daily dose of Omega 3). This is SO GOOD. After I got settled at work, I emailed the recipe to my husband, my mom, my mother-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law & about 6 people at work. :) It's light & crunchy & satisfying & just down-right yummy. Thanks for the great recipe! I can't wait to try it with dried cranberries & dried blueberries and...

Hello Rawtarian! Thank you for this recipe. I am not vegan but I am trying to incorporate more raw food into my diet. I had the modified version of this recipe this morning and it was delish! I have posted the recipe below:
1 shredded apple; 1 tablespoon flax seeds; 1 tablespoon raisins; I tablespoon pumpkin seeds; 1 tablespoon almonds; Sprinkle of cinnamon & 1/3 cup soy milk (This is all I had on hand :-( )
This will become a staple as it it delicious and quick to make. I will try again with homemade almond milk.
Thanks again for the recipe,
Tara

I came on here this morning looking for a good breakfast recipe that does not require a dehydrator (hope to have one someday!), and I found this one...wow, gonna try it today. Thanks so much! :)

This morning I made this recipe and IT.WAS.AMAZING!!! I've never had anything like this and it was SO GOOD! I used a red delicious and cherry craisins. Didn't have coconut but did add 2T of sliced almonds for that crunch you were talking about. I'm so surprised by how much I loved this AND by how naturally sweet it was! Oh, and this was also the first time I had chia seeds! NEW DAY for me all around. Oh, AND I was full til lunch!!!!
