soaking flax seeds.

I soaked some organic flax seeds overnight and they have come up very slimy. Is this normal? I tried rinsing as you do with other seeds like buckwheat but they still have this opaque type slime. Any suggestions would be welcome. I am trying to make flax crackers. Thanks

  • Hi trip, Whenever I’ve made flax crackers I’ve only soaked them for about an hour. There’s some recipes on this site and one suggests 1/2 hour to 8 hours. Maybe overnight was too long.

  • Flax seeds always go slimy when you soak them that’s what makes them so great. The slimy-ness is what will bind your crackers together.

    Yes, the slimy-ness is normal.

    the slimier the better!

  • 1.5 cups of water to 1 cup of flaxseed makes them perfect. Soak overnight and in the morning you should be able to flip the container up-side-down without more than a jiggle from the seeds.
