Recipe Directions

  • Simply assemble in a cereal bowl. You don't have to be exact with your measurements, but you should try to include the chopped apple since without the apple there isn't much to bulk up this recipe. Pour cashew milk on top and consume immediately.
  • This serves one. Sometimes I'll have two bowls (two servings) if I'm hungry :)

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Good morning,

I am having this as a raw breakfast cereal recipe on the weekends these days. I tend to have green smoothies on weekdays when I am in a rush, and raw breakfast cereal on the weekends when I have more time for a treat. Although this recipe is super quick!

This raw breakfast cereal recipe reminds me a bit of Alpen or granola, but it's raw and quick to prepare as long as you have cashew milk in the fridge. I don't always have cashew milk on the go, but I made a big batch lately so I've been enjoying this raw breakfast cereal recipe while the cashew milk lasts.

And if I don't have cashew milk, sometimes I will just splash some water on this instead. It's certainly better with a nut milk - but water will do in a pinch. Especially if you are on the go and trying to get out the door in the morning!

I made this recipe this morning. I was very pleased with the taste. I felt emotionally healthy eating it. I kept to the recipe except I added cinnamon and used part soy and almond milk combined because that is what I had on hand. I used a food processor to grate the apple after I cored it. It was delicious.
Thank you.

Lovely breakfast! I added raw coconut milk and a tablespoon of hemp hearts. I also added my apple dried along with dried banana in a kilner jar for quick breakfast on the go.

Can soy milk be used instead of the nut milks?

Hi Rosanna,

Soy milk is not raw, but if you are not 100% raw then it would be fine to use. It's basically just like a cereal, so you can use whatever "milk" substitute you like :)

Great! I ate it with a tablespoon or two raw yoghurt but it is very filling! I sliced the apple with the mandoline but chunks are better.
I think I make it in a few portions and take it to my mom. I am staying with her and my sister this weekend.
They eat lots of bread so I have to take some veggies, fruits and nuts with me!

Hi Frieda, good idea to make and take your own food! Bread can be a BIG temptation!

Oh my gosh, this is ridiculously good and so absolutely easy to make! I added some chopped dates to it as well...I think I found my new breakfast cereal (apart from the amazing raw oatmeal of course ;D). Thank you for this recipe!

Im curious - i usually soak and dehydrate most seed, grains and nuts - you dont mention it in this recipe. Is that because its not needed ??
Thanks - loving your recipes - from Copenhagen ;-)

Hi Jacob,

Soaking is only required in my recipes when it is explicitly stated. (So no soaking required in this recipe.)

But soaking is a good thing, much like only eating only organic produce. Great if you can do it, but not totally necessary.

What are buckwheat groats?

Hi Andy,

They are little grain-like seeds, very very hard and crunchy. (almost too crunchy to eat without liquid)

I get raw buckwheat groats at the health food store. I think toasted buckwheat seeds are called "kasha."

Also, from wikipedia: "it's a plant cultivated for its grain-like seeds, and also used as a cover crop. Despite the name, buckwheat is not related to wheat, as it is not a grass; instead, buckwheat is related to sorrel, knotweed, and rhubarb."

Also, I will attach a pic but I am not sure if you can see this in the app

Thank you so much for this amazing web site!
I love this breakfast recipe and adapt it depending on what I have - the cashew milk is so morish and definitely better than almond milk which I use if I have no cashew. I have recently been using grapes instead of apples as we have a glut in the garden.
It is so nice to find a good raw breakfast cereal to replace the old pre raw options - and it is quick and easy.
It has introduced me to eating buckwheat unsprouted too.
Thank you again

Hi Laura-Jane,

I tried this yesterday morning and it is my favourite of all your breakfast recipes. Keep up the brilliant work! Btw, I noticed you took down your recipe for a blueberry pie/tart. Is it because you don't really like the taste of it anymore?

Hi Sonia, glad you enjoyed the breakfast bowl! Re: country blueberry tart, I did move that one to my members-only area (TRK - The Rawtarian's Kitchen) because I am trying to move my more advanced recipes into TRK. :)
