Recipe Directions

  • 1. Place pecans alone in your food processor and process until the pecans become small and crumbly.
  • 2. Add dates to the raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture sticks together and the dates are well processed.
  • 3. Add the remaining ingredients to this raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture turns a lovely dark chocolatey brown. Stop processing before it gets too buttery. (There should still be air between the small bits so that you will be able to press them down into your brownie pan.)
  • 4. Dump the mixture into a brownie dish or small cake pan and press down firmly using your clean hands.
  • 5. Refrigerate this raw brownie recipe for a couple of hours. You do not have to refrigerate it, but it is much easier to slice when chilled. By the way, this is actually a raw brownie recipe that keeps its shape! So it can be good for serving to non-raw fooders because the presentation of this raw brownie recipe is good when chilled.
  • 6. Store this raw brownie recipe in the refrigerator if it lasts that long!
  • PS: For an even more delightful brownie, serve it with this easy, instant raw chocolate icing.

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Raw brownie recipe -- finally, a raw brownie recipe that tastes like REAL BROWNIES!

I am quite surprised and amazed at how the texture of this raw brownie recipe resembles real brownies--especially after this raw brownie recipe is refrigerated for about an hour or even longer.

My husband thinks this raw brownie recipe needs chocolate icing, but I disagree. I think it's perfect on its own! (But it is true, everything is better with raw chocolate icing on it.)

You can also use this raw brownie recipe as a pie crust or as very chocolately raw truffles.

Good luck trying to keep this raw brownie recipe around for longer than 24 hours. This vegan recipe would be good for about eight small servings. Feel free to double the recipe if you want more or if you want to make it last longer. (I usually double it.)

Advanced optional tip: Throw 1 tablespoon cacao nibs into the mixture after processing and before squishing into pan for fun crunchy texture!

is there a recipe for the raw chocolate icing (for the suggested topping)? I didn't see it listed?

Here is the recipe for you!
1 cup dates
1/4 cup raw cacao (cocoa) powder
1/4 cup coconut oil
3/4 cup water (or a tiny bit more if needed – try to keep at 3/4 cup or so though)
blend until smooth!

So pleased to see the metric convertor on your page! Makes cooking in the UK so much easier! Can I use cashew instead?

How long should I process the dates for? I didn't want to over process but my mixture did not come together, staying crumbly. My dates (bought yesterday) were on the dry side., I wonder if that is the issue.

Still tasty but more biscuit like when refrigerated.

Hi Maria!

Length of time to process the dates? Maybe 1 full minute? The mixture should really stick together after processing the dates.

The only problem with these brownies is that they are so seriously delicious that I found it hard to not eat half the pan!!! SO GOOD!

Can I make this recipe in my blender

No, sorry Barbara. Blender won't work because the nuts'll get all caught up in the blades, and it won't blend properly because this recipe is very dry.

(wet = blender. dry = food processor)

Tessa's Review

Raw brownie recipe

Hello!

I'm making these brownies for about the 10th time. I love them so much they have now become a staple in my family. Anyway I had a question about the processing of the dates. I have a pretty powerful food processor, however I find every time I make these the blade gets 'stuck'. I literally have to use a mini food processor and a large one and swap the contents over and over between the 2 because both processors get too hot! My question is: if I add some water to lube the mix up a little, will this ruin it? OR can I add some cacao to soak up the water?

I obviously can never make these fast enough hehe

Hi Tessa!

In short, I think you need a new food processor with a sharper blade :)

Don't add more water....

Try this instead -- can you add a few dates one at a time? Like, put the nuts in, then while the nuts are processing add a few dates, then a few more, then a few more?

I have had MANY crappy food processors and generally I don't have the problem that you're having.

Also, are your dates super dry and old?

What size springboard cake pan would you suggest using for this recipe?

Hi Ottochuck,

When I am making this for myself at home, I double the batch and make it in an 8x8" glass dish.

(In the photo I used a tiny springform pan, about 4")

OMG. I do not ever comment on the internet, except once to ask about an ingredient in something. This is the most exceptional thing ever. Especially with the icing. I did find that there was more icing to brownie ratio... but perfect treat that i ate yesterday for Christmas on my fun eating plan. Please tell me i can eat like a regular brownie size everyday?!
