Recipe Directions

  • 1. Throw these raw chocolate avocado pudding ingredients into a high-speed blender. Start blending on slow and then crank up the blending speed to high.
  • 2. Blend this sucker until puddingy and gooooood! You might need to start and stop this a few times to get it to blend properly because the dates will require more blending than pudding recipes that don't contain dates. If you have a good blender (AKA Vitamix or Blendtec) then you should be able to get this super smooth.
  • 3. You may need to add a tiny bit of extra water to facilitate blending. But if doing so only add TINY bits at a time! Try not to add extra water or it'll end up watering it down and changing the consistency.

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Most raw chocolate avocado puddings do not contain dates. Rather, instead they include a lot more agave nectar or raw honey to get the pudding to sweeten up. However, I don't like to use too much honey in this one, so instead in this raw chocolate avocado pudding recipe I call for dates and just a bit of honey.

I recommend soaking your dates first in a warm water for an hour or so so that they are soft and easier to blend, especially If you do not have a high-speed blender.

Although you can eat this chocolate pudding right away, I find that this raw pudding tastes best when chilled in the fridge for at least a few hours.

This is a small recipe that makes four small servings. Feel free to double if you'd like more. And more choco puddding is always a good thing!

I used carob instead of cacoa powder, left out the salt too. IT WAS DELICIOUS!! Thanks for the recipe. =)

My pleasure Kelly! Glad it worked out well for you with carob. I find carob has a weaker taste than cacao, so if using carob I suggest adding a bit more than the cacao powder (like 1.5 times)

Really great treat for toddlers. My 2 toddlers love it and you feel happy to feed it to them when they ask. I kind of combine this and the regular chocolate pudding recipe together for extra nutrition

Hi !
I just made this and I'm letting it sit in the refrigerator a bit before I dig in !! But one question : the color of my pudding didn't come out as beautifully dark brown as urs ..because of the avocado it looks more like a dirty dark greenish/brown :/..I just used my CuisinArt food processor since I don't have a high quality blender so maybe the cacao powder didn't get incorporated well ? I tried adding a bit more but that didn't help too much ..any thoughts ? Thanks !! :))

Hi Afrina! It's hard to say, there are so many variables! Mine definitely doesn't look greenish - perhaps you were a bit stingy with the cacao :)

hi! I am starting the raw foods diet and lifestyle for my health and some weight loss :) I was wondering since I do not have a high speed blender yet (hopefully soon maybe my bday lol) can I soak my dates in the water for a few hours before I make this? would that help incorporate them into the recipe and make them blend smoother?
thanks! love the website btw!

Hi Sarah, yes, that is a great idea! It definitely helps them blend more smoothly.  Just make sure to pat them dry a bit before using - too much extra moisture will affect the end result.

Hi Lisa,

So glad you both enjoyed the pudding.

Going raw doesn't take too much courage, it's more to do with being prepared, making sure your fridge is stocked with delicious appetizing fruits and veg, and spending a little more time making food then one is used to. :) Easier said than done, I know, but it all starts with the next bite. :) xox

Hi - the recipe looks amazing. Any thoughts on what I might be able to replace the dates with?

Thanks,
Dawn
