Recipe Directions

  • 1. Place all ingredients in food processor. Process until extremely smooth. (You can't over-process this one, so do keep going until it's perfectly mousse-like!)
  • 2. Spoon mousse into individual dishes and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before eating.

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

What makes this raw chocolate mousse recipe so special? The addition of avocado gives it that fluffy, mousse-like texture. And to get the full effect of the texture, you'll want to refrigerate it for at least 1 hour before noshing on it!

Note that the coconut oil is an important ingredient - it's what helps the mousse harden up a bit in the fridge.

Because this is such a small recipe, it whips up best when made in a food processor.

For extra flavor and fun, add fresh berries to your mousse when eating!

PS: Make sure your banana and avocado are fresh and at the peak of perfection.

Yum Gail! I am ashamed to admit it, but I have no idea what kind of avocados I use. I live in a small rural area and I just tend to buy whatever they have in store. I am curious now to try different types!

I added a touch of vanilla to enhance the chocolate. I love the simplicity of your recipes. It's encouraging me to go raw again. Thanks for your work!!
I have been eating raw cacao for years...I will check out the info on toxicity, but I'm sceptical.

I omitted on tablespoon of the coacoa and used 1 tablespoon vanilla powder, so incredible! I made it in the past, but I must agree, the vanilla gives it something!

Where has this been all my life? The more raw I eat the less I want to return to my old unhealthy habits.

Wow! Just made this in the blender, no problems at all and we didn't bother with the fridge. We are thoroughly enjoying it though next time it might be nice to have it cold so maybe if we can restrain ourselves we'll put it in the fridge but it's great just like this! Thanks for the recipe!

I love this recipe. Do you think it would work without the banana? Or could the banana be replaced with anything else?

Hi Sarah!

In this recipe the banana provides two pain purposes: (1) sweetness (2) creaminess. You could omit the banana and add another avocado for the creaminess and bump up the sweetener to taste.

Hope this helps :)

Hi Laura Jane,

A truly simple and silky smooth chocolatey bit of deliciousness. I made one batch and my husband and I ate it straight away and without washing the food processor I made another batch for setting in the fridge.

So much flavour out of so few ingredients. Love it. Next time I want a chocolate banana tart I am going to use a raw pie base and use this for my filling and decorate with bananas. Loving you and your work. Xxx

hi laura-jane!!!
im so happy to have found your website!!! i'm vegan but this month going raw and i never felt this good before (and its been 15 days only) i am considering aiming for 70% raw after this month (i'm hardcore now) heheh!!!
thank you so much for sharing all this yummy recipes with us. I'm really interested in finding out about that raw pasta (i forgot the name) which you're crazy about!!! i live in sydney!! what should i look for??? anyway, i'll try to find.

another question if that's ok??

what about frozen berries? is this allowed??? i did the cheesecake thet you have here (turned out amazing) but did the topping with frozen berries then i started to wonder.

thank you again!!! XOXOOX

Hi Julia, Welcome to my world! Glad to have you here :)

70% raw is an awesome goal. Sounds like you are thriving already.

As far as raw pasta goes, I used to be really into "kelp noodles" (you buy them from a store - like these www.kelpnoodles.com) but lately I have just been spiralizing zucchini to make my own noodles. It's super easy.

Re: frozen berries, it is obvious to me that "fresh" is better than frozen hands down. For example, someone who claims that a berry frozen for a year is just as healthy as a freshly plucked strawberry of the vine is clearly delusional. BUT, that being said, I do eat frozen berries all the time because it is just not practical for me to eat fresh berries all year long (due to price and availability). So... go for it. :)
