Recipe Directions

  • 1. Place all ingredients in food processor. Process until extremely smooth. (You can't over-process this one, so do keep going until it's perfectly mousse-like!)
  • 2. Spoon mousse into individual dishes and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before eating.

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

What makes this raw chocolate mousse recipe so special? The addition of avocado gives it that fluffy, mousse-like texture. And to get the full effect of the texture, you'll want to refrigerate it for at least 1 hour before noshing on it!

Note that the coconut oil is an important ingredient - it's what helps the mousse harden up a bit in the fridge.

Because this is such a small recipe, it whips up best when made in a food processor.

For extra flavor and fun, add fresh berries to your mousse when eating!

PS: Make sure your banana and avocado are fresh and at the peak of perfection.

Hi Rachael. If you type "raw cacao toxic" (or anything similar) into Google there is heaps on information available. Sorry to everyone if I sounded negative - that wasn't my intention at all! I think it's important to share information so I thought I would note my reasons for using cocoa instead of cacao. Another reason is that I feed all these amazing, wonderful raw creations to my kids - so it's important that all ingredients are 100% safe. Thanks Rawtarian for a beautiful recipe and an awesome website!

Lisa, aren't these two basically the same? Cacao and cocoa, check on the web. I'm sure the heating up aspect of cocoa/cacao is not good, it is never good to heat up fat and oils as this releases carcinogenics and more unpleaseantries.

If you use raw cacao/cocoa you should be ok. And, as always, use everything in moderation :-)

:-)

OMG...so good I am afraid I am going to become an addict. One suggestion...don't bother with a single batch...make a double batch to start!

Does anyone else not use raw cacao? This is the first time I have heard anything negative about it!! Does anyone else agree with post about it being toxic? What brand of organic cocoa do you use?

Hi Claudia!
Glad to hear it is yummy! I want to make it soon as well!

How long did it take for you to grow the avocado and banana trees? I really want to grow them because I am obsessed with avocados and bananas (among other things!).... I live in California. Do you think it would grow well here?

Thanks!
-Grace :)

P.S. Roughly how many servings does this make?

I don't (won't) use cacao as I have read it is toxic to the liver and can damage the nervous system. I use organic cocoa instead...do I use the same amount i.e. 4 tablespoons?

Hi Lisa! 4 tablespoons will be perfect (PS: If using carob, go with 6 tablespoons)
