Recipe Directions

  • 1. OPTIONAL TO SOFTEN: The night before, throw the water, raisins and then oats into your blender. Let them sit overnight.
  • 2. In the morning, start your blender (and if you didn't soak the night before, throw the water, raisins and then the oats into your blender). While the water and oats are blending, chop the apple and then add it to the blender, too.
  • 3. Continue blending until the oatmeal is a nice, smooth texture.
  • 4. Eat! I love to top this oatmeal with more whole raisins and a sprinkle of cinnamon. This recipe makes for a very filling breakfast.

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

In the morning, my breakfast is almost always either fresh fruit, a green smoothie, or--my favourite--quick, blended oatmeal.

This recipe does take a bit of preparation because it should be soaked overnight, but, with only a few ingredients, it's so easy! (PS: You can do it without soaking but it won't be as smooth.)

Of course, like any good oatmeal, top this recipe with fruit or whatever suits your fancy!

PS: It has recently come to my attention that eating truly uncooked oats is not safe. Thus, I have modified this recipe to use quick rolled oats, which have been cooked but are way better for your digestive system. Truly raw (uncooked) oats are very tough on the digestive system and should not be eaten because of their high amount of phytic acid.

Hi!

How long do you let your Vitamix run for while blending your oatmeal? I've never made raw oatmeal and I'm just starting my raw journey (6 weeks in) but I have a Vitamix and am going to make this tomorrow for breakfast. Just want to know how long to blend it.

Until it's super silky smooth - in a Vitamix that's probably about 1 minute - I usually monitor by touching the outside of the carafe - once the mixture is starting to get warm then I know that it's ready - I don't let mixture get very hot, but you want it smooth

So you eat it cold?

Well, it's not piping hot but it's not "cold" per se.

If you have a high speed blender and you eat it right away it will be warm from the friction :) Try it :)

This sounds good will try it. I do one with oats and steel cut oats. I use organic apple juice, quartered plums, sunflower seeds, chopped almonds, grated apple. Love it

Dang, that combo sounds dee-lish!

You are making me crave oatmeal again, and I haven't had it in a long time. :) Especially the plum/sunflower seed combo. Yum!

Hi Laura-Jane - thanks so much for your blog. I've just started eating raw (about 2 months ago) and the change in my life has been amazing. I will be sure to try out some of your delicious-looking recipes. Greetings from Australia!

Greetings right back at ya from Canada, Seb!

2 months in... do you have a high-speed blender yet? I waited until the 6-month mark to get mine. (I have a history of flaking out on things, and my husband asked me to wait until reaching the 6 month mark before shelling out the big bucks for a vitamix, lol). Now, about a year and a half in, I have proved him wrong. :)

Hi! I just made this today and it was fabulous. I added vanilla extract and a little raw honey as well. I am really looking forward to trying more of your recipes as I adopt a more raw food diet. Thanks for sharing!
