Recipe Directions

  • 1. Get your orange zest off an orange before you peel it. The easiest way to get fresh orange zest is to simply use a clean orange peeler to shave a bit of orange peel off. Collect 1 tbsp's worth.
  • 2. Peel your oranges well using a knife. Cut off most of the white rind so that you just have nice, glistening oranges with very little white rind left.
  • 3. Add all ingredients to your high-speed blender.
  • 4. Blend well.
  • 5. Enjoy your raw orange smoothie!

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Raw orange smoothie recipe - I was craving a creamy orange smoothie today for some reason. Not sure why! So I put my thinking cap on about what would make this smoothie burst with orange flavour - while at the same time being super smooth and creamy. And here's what I came up with!

It's very easy to make, and the consistency is super creamy and orangy. Note: This is best made with a high-speed blender since oranges can be difficult to get to a smooth consistency in a standard blender due to their fibrous consistency.

Enjoy this raw orange smoothie recipe when you're craving a creamsicle! This recipe makes one serving -- perfect for a snack or dessert.

Looks delicious. Just wondering what's the coconut oil for? Can I substitute it cos I don't have coconut oil on hand.

Great, Kat! You'll definitely find that coconut oil comes in handy. I use it a lot in my recipes. (Usually I use it so that a recipe will harden when frozen or refrigerated)

I made this last night and it was great but I would not add the orange zest next time. I did not care for that bitter bite that it imparts. I prefer the orange creamsickle taste of my youth. I added a little manuka honey as well to up the nutritional value and taste. Enjoy being raw, Kristine

I tried a raw food diet some years ago. It seemed quite boring eating fruit and salad all the time. Thank goodness I came across your web site :) Your recipes look extra yummy. I feel quite positive in eating raw again. .There are so many health benefits. I need to lose weight, what would you suggest? Thanks.

Hi Illie, one of the greatest weight loss tips is to eat MORE healthy stuff first.    So find some tasty healthy food that you LOVE. For me, it started with fresh fruit, like grapes, blueberries and fresh strawberries.  :)  Focus on GOOD healthy stuff. That is the first step.

I made one of your breakfasts' this morning & for a mid-afternoon snack -- I'm going to be having THIS!!! Just to make it a lil less cals I'm only going to do 1 banana, 2 baby cuties & 1/2T coconut oil -- hope it turns out bc my taste buds are ready for the party! :)

Side effect of eating your food today? I'm buzzing with energy and I've been up since 4am!!! I like it! haha

Hi Jutta, It is probably not necessary, but it just gives a slightly extra pop of orangy-goodness ;)

instead of a banana use a cherimoya (chair ah Moi ah). They are creamy and custard like you can freeze it and put it in your smoothie. They are a wee bit expensive but OHHHHH so worth it. Beware once you have one you are going to want another! I have been craving one ever since my last! Also NOTE don't eat the seeds!
You should be able to find these at specialty food stores like Whole foods or something similar.

This is delicious. If this makes 2 servings and I drink half straight away, how long can I keep the other half in the fridge and still retain its goodness.

I use to try all kinds of replacement meals to help me lose weight. A company called ideal shape has these plastic cups that have a lid and an ingenious "wisk" ball made out of stainless steel. Since I have been making smoothies, I pour all the finished product into one of these cups and take (usually 2 full cups full) to work with me. I refridgerate one of them for lunch and sip on the other all morning until gone, usually before 9. When you snap the lid shut you can shake it up and the "wisk" ball helps to keep it blended quite well. I think you can buy these cups from their website. just google ideal shape.

Not very long - I usually never store. Just drink it all in one day. Whatever you do, don't store in your blender - that's a bad habit to get into! :) Try pouring in separate glasses, covering in saran wrap. Then give a little stir with a spoon (or shake if you store them in mason jars) when you want to drink. This one might firm up a bit in fridge due to to coconut oil.
