The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

No equipment  required for this easy raw recipe.

Your coconut oil must be liquified and clear in order to properly stir together. (If your coconut oil is white and hard, just warm it up first and it will liquify very quickly.)

These pancakes are extremely heavy and rich so reserve for special occasions! I actually can only handle one pancake to myself. You can easily halve this recipe.

You must use ground/milled flax seeds - not whole flaxseeds! (In other words, this is more like using "flour" than using "oats" if you get my drift!)

Banana actually goes surprisingly well with these pancakes.

This one is definitely heavy on the flax and perhaps not quite a crowd-pleasure when it comes to little people :)

Tried these this morning. Seemed a bit too salty for my taste. But, I don't normally add salt to anything either. I will try them again.

Good to know, Jenny! I am a salty gal so perhaps that has something to do with it - also, did you use sea salt or table salt?

This is one of my most favorite recipes. I do use Spectrum Decadent blend of Chia and Flax See with Coconut and Cocoa. What can I say but you need to try it and love it.

You should not eat that amount of ground flaxseed, it becomes poison HCN.

Interesting – I will investigate more about HCN. My understanding was that it’s only a problem with immature seeds?

I used pre ground flax. Found pancakes hard to form. Very dry mixture

My daughter and I love these pancakes! She is 6 and we are on the go too often. These are easy to make, easy to freeze/thaw, easy to bring, not messy to eat in car (no syrup or jam instead) and we even dehydrated them with some success! A definite favorite!

Like some others, mine came out gooey. Is this normal?
Also, it had a much smoother texture than the picture.
I ground my own flax meal with a Vitamix.

Interesting! I've never had mine turn out gooey... hmm. Did you follow the instructions exactly, or did you sub a sweetener? Not sure what to say, Chuck!

Laura-Jane,

I did not sub with any sweetener.

Did you buy a Flaxseed meal or grind your own. I ground my own with a Vitamix grinder attachment.

Thanks!
Chuck

Hi Chuck! If grinding yourself, you need to measure the amount AFTER grinding and not before. (In this case I used preground – grinding your own can work but you must measure after).

Mine turned out nothing like the pictures and I used exact ingredients and measurements.... It was very grainy and kind of gooshy.... Not sure what can be changed, as I see other reviews had the same issue :\

Hi Kalie! I used this recipe to make the pic above and followed it to the letter :) Was your coconut oil liquid? And how finely ground was your flax meal?

These were great. A hit with my husband who loves pancakes :) Like most raw things I go into the recipe expecting them not to taste anything like "regular" versions on food. Then when they are similar, its a nice surprise and not a disappointment :) thanks for a good recipe.

Raw pancake recipe

I don't know why but I couldn't make myself like these. I am new to this whole raw eating and regular pancakes are my favorite breakfast food! I know these weren't going to taste dead on like regular pancakes but I could not finish it. I put strawberries & maple syrup on top too but it just didn't do it for me. It was a mixture of taste and texture. a little too salty and grainy to me. could you substitute Almond flour/wheat for it? Would that help?

Hi Brittany,

Thanks for your honest review. They definitely aren't totally pancakey, I agree on that front :)

If you have a dehydrator, there are good dehydrated pancake recipes that don't taste as gritty
