The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Don't believe me that this could taste as good as old-school SAD (standard American diet) ranch? Just try it. I dare ya :)

Raw ranch dressing is another one of those things that I cannot believe it's possible to replicate raw. But, hallelujah, it is possible.

There is nothing like a nice fresh carrot dipped in raw ranch dressing, no?

And I have even had the pleasure of dipping my raw vegan pizza in raw ranch dressing. "Cue heavenly harp sound...."

So here's my favourite raw ranch dressing recipe for you... I use it basically like a normal salad dressing or dip. I usually make one batch and serve it as a vegetable dip, salad dressing and maybe even on a few more exciting things, like in a raw vegan BLT sandwich or dip raw pizza in it if I am feeling particularly daring.

Of course, you also know that the best vegetables to dip in raw ranch dressing are carrots and broccolli, right?

Are you suppose to soak the cashews, or just throw in dry?

I love this recipe too!! I've made it about 5 times now! My husband and I grew up on ranch dressing. We smeared it on everything! Now that we are dairy and gluten free we were missing it and didn't even know it. Tonight I made it to put on kale that I'll be dehydrating. I'm curious to see how it turns out. Thanks so much!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!
I love that ranch. I’ve adapted it to fit my foodie desires, and it’s the most requested “ranch” recipe!

I love it till the very end!
I can get up to 10 days (I use more lemon juice than apple cider vinegar), and the flavor keeps improving; it’s incredible! There’s a “sweet spot” (so to speak) just before going sour that reminds me of blue cheese😍

My foodie friends call me the adapting queen🤪👏🏻 yet I give this recipe two thumbs up just the way it is also!👍🏼👍🏼

My version of adoptions:
For the sweetener, I only tried real maple syrup, Grade A.

I’ve also made it with and without oil, using avocado oil, and with the oil cut in half. I decide based on who’s eating it and the dietary needs.🙏🏻

I found the recipe does need ACV, just not as much for my version, as we love the lemon version better. I’ve used varied amounts of both, and at this moment, I don’t have my notes on the ratio I love the best.

I encourage people to play with the recipe to suit their desires.

Thank you, Rawfruitarian, for the recipe! 💪🏼

Soaking a little bit always makes for smoother blending and a smoother texture. So although not necessary it's a good thing to do! :)

Amazing!! I am new to the raw lifestyle and this recipe is a lifesaver!! I have been tweaking it a little by increasing the dill to 1 tablespoon and the water to 1 cup, reducing the honey to 1 tablespoon and then adding two Serrano peppers (cuz I like it SPICY :)....I love your site!!

This recipe was absolutely delicious! I am not one to comment online, but was so pleased and grateful I found this, I thought it best I did. I am on the second week of a 28 day fruit and veggie only cleanse. Salads were beginning to be very boring. This recipe gave my cleanse the new life it needed! I will certainly use this dressing even when I am not on the cleanse. Thanks!

Hi Jess,

I'm so glad you've been enjoying your cleanse... and that the ranch dressing helped to take it up a notch!

I find a nut pate (like this one) thrown on top of a basic salad also really helps brighten up a boring salad: https://www.therawtarian.com/raw-walnut-pate

Another option to try :)

Good luck with the rest of your challenge!

I love the taste of this, but mine came out a bit grainy. Could it be because I don't have a Vitamix or perhaps I just need to add more water?

Yes - the graininess definitely is mostly to do with your blender. It's the cashews.

Ideally, you'd get a better blender (like Vitamix or Blendtec).

Another option is to soak your cashews in warm water for at least 30 minutes (the purpose is to soften them, so that they will blend more easily): soak in a big bowl, drain, rinse clean quickly, drain again. THEN PAT DRY WITH A CLEAN TEA TOWEL (to remove the excess water) - they don't have to be DRY, you just don't want to add too much excess moisture.

Good luck!

Any substitute for the oil? My family is on the plant based diet. I hope there is. We make this dressing every week and now that we are plant based I don't know how to replace the oil:(

Try replacing the cashews and oil with hemp seeds.

Hi Vernesa,

There is no obvious substitute for the oil, but you can probably get away with reducing it by half. (For example, using 1/6 cup instead of a 1/3 cup)
