The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Don't believe me that this could taste as good as old-school SAD (standard American diet) ranch? Just try it. I dare ya :)

Raw ranch dressing is another one of those things that I cannot believe it's possible to replicate raw. But, hallelujah, it is possible.

There is nothing like a nice fresh carrot dipped in raw ranch dressing, no?

And I have even had the pleasure of dipping my raw vegan pizza in raw ranch dressing. "Cue heavenly harp sound...."

So here's my favourite raw ranch dressing recipe for you... I use it basically like a normal salad dressing or dip. I usually make one batch and serve it as a vegetable dip, salad dressing and maybe even on a few more exciting things, like in a raw vegan BLT sandwich or dip raw pizza in it if I am feeling particularly daring.

Of course, you also know that the best vegetables to dip in raw ranch dressing are carrots and broccolli, right?

Wow, I really love your site. I've been here before, made a lot of your recipes, but not this one before today.
I read a lot of the comments before I made it, especially noted the comments about it being "too vinegary", then played with what I have on hand. I had no lemon juice or onion powder, and chose not to use any sweetener. Instead, I used a small amount of raw marinated onions that I had in the fridge, and I used fresh coconut water. Herbamare instead of plain sea salt, double garlic and double dill. It is still a little more tangy than I'd like, but I'm thinking that tang will smooth out as it sits in the fridge. It also came out of the Vitamix wonderfully thick. I love it.
Thanks again for all that you share with us.

How long will this last in the fridge? Please answer because this is AMAZING!!

It keeps for about 5 days in the fridge.

It'll thicken up in the fridge to be more like a dip (which is fine, just let it sit out at room temperature for 20 mins or so if you want it to soften up again, or put some in a little bowl and stir in a bit of water).

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

This stuff is so darn good! I used 2 tsp of onion powder instead of 3 tsp, & 2 tbsp of coconut nectar, other than those 2 minor changes, I followed the recipe. The dressing came out thick & tangy. I used 3 tbsp in a raw vegan stuffing recipe, which came out fantastic.?

I just made this last night using your recipe and absolutely love it. Cashews are a great base in making a lot of sauces. Thanks so much!

this is my absolute favorite version of vegan ranch dressing ever, and i've tried many. having grown up putting it on everything from salads to baked potatoes, ranch dressing was something that i really missed once i went vegan. this brought the nostalgic flavor right back to me and when i'm craving ranch dressing, this is my go to recipe. no need to search for another one! thank you! xo

Hi Renay! I'm so glad that you liked it.

There seems to be a small camp of reviews that say that this recipe is too sweet, but I don't find it too sweet at all. For our other readers, what sweetener do you use for this and do you find it too sweet?

Love
Laura-Jane

I use raw honey for the sweetener, although I do a scant amount, probably a bit less than 3TB (i rarely measure exactly if we're being honest ;-) It would still be delicious even without sweetener at all, but with the honey it is reminiscent of Hidden Valley Ranch or Litehouse Ranch. Most people don't realize just how much sugar (and we're talking GMO beet sugar or corn syrup most of the time, too - you're lucky if it's cane sugar) is in commercial dressings and sauces - sugar is often the first or second ingredient!

Hi! I'm sorry that the recipe didn't turn out for you.. What kind of sweetener did you use, and did you soak your cashews?

My husband just loved this. I am still on the fence about it. I think the next time I make it I will omit the sweetener (I didn't have agave nectar so used coconut nectar) and then while it is still in the vitamix add a teaspoon at a time until I get it just right. I may back off of the onion powder a bit, too. I just need to fiddle with it some. I don't have a big sweet tooth....my hsuband does, though.

Hi Devona,

If you can't do vinegar, you could omit it completely or possibly add some lemon juice instead.

I omitted the oil and added the equivalent in water. I also used three dates instead of 3 T syrup. Tastes wonderful. Been using this recipe for two years now, and I still love it, even with my recent personal changes.
