The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Don't believe me that this could taste as good as old-school SAD (standard American diet) ranch? Just try it. I dare ya :)

Raw ranch dressing is another one of those things that I cannot believe it's possible to replicate raw. But, hallelujah, it is possible.

There is nothing like a nice fresh carrot dipped in raw ranch dressing, no?

And I have even had the pleasure of dipping my raw vegan pizza in raw ranch dressing. "Cue heavenly harp sound...."

So here's my favourite raw ranch dressing recipe for you... I use it basically like a normal salad dressing or dip. I usually make one batch and serve it as a vegetable dip, salad dressing and maybe even on a few more exciting things, like in a raw vegan BLT sandwich or dip raw pizza in it if I am feeling particularly daring.

Of course, you also know that the best vegetables to dip in raw ranch dressing are carrots and broccolli, right?

Thank you so much for this recipe! I stumbled upon it while googling a healthy option and it is indeed, out of this world. I soaked my cashews overnight and added less water, went with 1/4 c of evoo and 1T of agave - absolutely delicious! Oh, I also used limes since that's all we had on hand! Bookmarking your site for sure! Thanks again!

My local vegan restaurant makes an amazing ranch to go with their amazing (baked) Buffalo Cauliflower Wings...I don't see a cauliflower wing recipe on your site, do you by chance have one? I want to make your ranch recipe for the wings, if I can find a good recipe for them.

Ooh, no, I definitely don't have a cauliflower wing recipe. I have never heard of such a thing, but it sounds amazing!!! What were they like??

I ended up using macadamia nuts, half the oil, and half the the sweetener...oh, my holy deliciousness. One of my struggles going vegan was not having a ranch that tasted like the real thing (as dumb as that is). This puts Hidden Valley to shame!!!

Loved loved loved! I used 1/4 c cashews and 1 c raw almonds (did not soak at all) and replaced the 1/3 c oil with water (in addition to the 3/4 c called for in the recipe) and it turned out amazing. Very thick but excellent as a dip. I just added more water to thin as a dressing. Thanks for the recipe. It was seriously mind blowing how it tastes exactly like ranch dip/ dressing!! My hubby and 10 year old son love it too!!

I need to make this. I am surprised by the calories, though. Doesn't that seem high, and not low, for a dressing? I guess they're good calories, right?

Hi Lauren!

Everything in moderation :)

The cashews make it rather high in fat, but it's packed full of healthy, wholesome ingredients, no preservatives, and is fresh! If you combine it with a ton of veggies, like a big salad or chopped veggies, you'll be doing just fine!

This was delicious. My husband thinks it is too sweet, so we will try starting with no sweetner next time and slowly adding it in until he thinks it's perfect. Lol. Do you know if there is a way to make raw ranch without cashews, using something else?

We just transitioned into 80% Raw 20% Cooked, and your site has been amazing. Just wanted to throw out a huge thank you!

It sounds like you are on an awesome roll, Kristin, nice job!!

Instead of cashews, the only other alternative is macadamia nuts in this recipe. (Because these are the two nuts that will give you the creamiest results.)

Do you think using white beans instead of cashews would work?

Hmmm... well, I really can't speak to that idea, as my instinct is to say it MAY work, kinda - but you might want to reduce the liquid a bit. And it is VERY RISKY. But the potential is there.

If you try it, I WANT TO KNOW HOW IT TURNS OUT!!!!

Raw ranch dressing recipe

So GOOD! SO good! But get this, I forgot the water!
I cut the recipe in half to see if I'd like and simply forgot to add the water. It came out very thick (dah), and when I tasted it I just swooned with delight. Everything about it delighted my taste buds. The next day (today) the dressing was even thicker; I couldn't wait to taste it, so I did, with apple slices. My dog and I often share an apple and today I took my share and dipped them into some of the Raw Ranch Dressing (without water), again, swooning with delight.
Thank you Laura-Jane for another winning recipe. My only dilemma now is rather I should add that water next time I make it - LOL!

Ronna, thanks for sharing your story! I think the main difference is that without the water it is more of a dip than a dressing -- so it would be harder to pour on something. But, as you mentioned, the flavor would still be good. :)

My dog loves apples too!
