The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Don't believe me that this could taste as good as old-school SAD (standard American diet) ranch? Just try it. I dare ya :)

Raw ranch dressing is another one of those things that I cannot believe it's possible to replicate raw. But, hallelujah, it is possible.

There is nothing like a nice fresh carrot dipped in raw ranch dressing, no?

And I have even had the pleasure of dipping my raw vegan pizza in raw ranch dressing. "Cue heavenly harp sound...."

So here's my favourite raw ranch dressing recipe for you... I use it basically like a normal salad dressing or dip. I usually make one batch and serve it as a vegetable dip, salad dressing and maybe even on a few more exciting things, like in a raw vegan BLT sandwich or dip raw pizza in it if I am feeling particularly daring.

Of course, you also know that the best vegetables to dip in raw ranch dressing are carrots and broccolli, right?

Raw eating is very new to me. I plan to start eating raw next week. I was wondering if you have to use cashews in this recipe or can you substitute any other nut?

Hi Najla! You could try macadamia nuts. Cashews make dressings nice and creamy - other "hard" nuts won't work, but macadamias are a soft nut so might work!

Can I substitute Dill? I don't think I can find it here in Brazil.

OMG, I just made this, chilled it, and dipped some cauliflower in it to taste.....A-MAZING!!!!! It tastes so creamy and decadent, I'm in heaven! I assumed the cashews were to be soaked so I did that and the dressing came out a bit thinner than yours looks in the photo but it's fine because I wanted it to lightly toss it with my salad anyway. Even so, after chilling it, it coated the cauliflower beautifully. This will be my go-to creamy dressing and crudite dip from now on!! Thank you!!! x

This ranch is OK, but it's definitely not SAD. It's way too sweet.I didn't understand the honey. My son liked it though and that's all that matters.

Hi, I just found your site, as I'm contemplating going raw and this dressing sounds wonderful, by the way, but as I do everything with gusto, I wanted to ask someone who has been raw for quite some time, is maple syrup really considered raw? I'm from Vermont, the maple syrup state and my family make and sell our pure maple syrup and although it's pure natural sap from the trees, no additives, etc, it is cooked, ie boiled...therefore wouldn't this be a no no for a raw diet? Before reworking what can go in my cupboard and fridge, I just thought I'd check simply because I know how it's made where I understand many wouldn't. Thanks so much for any insight you can share and I'm making this ranch dressing tonight for the first time and I just can't wait! Thank you so much for the inspiration!

Hi Sassy!

Congrats on doing everything with gusto. I am the same :)

Sweeteners are a controversial topic in the raw world - many people use agave nectar, maple syrup or honey interchangeably depending on preference.

Agave nectar - highly refined, high GI,
Unpasteurized honey - not vegan (comes from bees)
Maple syrup - heated

Choose your preferred option :) I usually use local raw unpasteurized honey, but it isn't vegan, but I do know where my honey comes from!
