Recipe Directions

  • 1. Throw all ingredients (except last 1/2 cup of tomatoes) in a high-speed blender and blend up 'til nice and smooth and well mixed. You can let this raw tomato soup recipe blend in the Vitamix or Blendtec blender for a little extra time so that the heat of the blades and the friction actually warm up this delicious, creamy raw tomato soup recipe.
  • 2. Transfer raw tomato soup to a bowl. Add the remaining 1/2 cup of diced tomatoes and mix gently with a spoon.
  • 3. Garnish the raw tomato soup recipe with sunflower sprouts! Eat immediately.

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Raw tomato soup recipe - Does that sound tasty to you? For some reason I was really turned off by the idea of raw soups for a long time. For two years, actually! I was turned off of raw soups because I once made a raw vegan beet soup that was very gross and watery!

But I finally gave raw soups another go and was pleasantly--and I mean very pleasantly--surprised by my raw tomato soup recipe!

What I like about this recipe is that it's so easy. I mean, you've got tomatoes and cashews, basically. Can't get much easier than that!

A lot of other raw tomato soups call for avocados, but I like this recipe because I always have cashews on hand in my pantry so I can make it any time--rather than having to make sure I have a perfect avocado on hand.

This raw tomato soup recipe makes a nice big bowl for one person. :)

Hi Elizabeth, I love eating fresh beans like snacks with a drizzle of olive oil and some greek spices on top with some sea salt sprinkled on.

I don't eat squash much

All your recipes sound super delicious and I'd love to try a raw vegan diet but do you miss having your food hot at all? I really enjoy having a nice hot breakfast and dinner in the winter and I couldn't imagine eating cold foods all the time. Thanks in advance for your feedback :)

Hi Megan, I can honestly say that heated food is not something that I miss! But there are specific ingredients or textures that I do miss. You just get used to it, and it becomes your new normal :)

Hi. I'd love to try this for dinner tonight. I don't have sun-dried tomatoes, (and I'm in the Costa Rican jungle where I'm not likely to find any). Can I make it without. I DO have plenty of avocados so might like to try with them, as nuts are hard to come by, here. Thanks.

Hi Lane! The sun-dried tomato serves two purposes - helps to soak up some liquid (thicken the soup a bit) and also to give a slightly more tomatoish flavor. I think if you dial the water down a tiny bit and maybe add half or even a quarter of avo instead of the sundried that'll be deelish!

Really good except I feel that avocado would have been better to make it creamy and more soup like. I ended up using this as a raw pasta sauce which was awesome!

I just made this today and it was yum! Even my 18month old son liked it! We are new to this Raw way of eating so to be able to make nice simple things is very helpful! Thank you again!

Recently fully raw... Been experimenting for a while. Didn't dare try soups cause the thought freaked me out... Until this week & almost gave up on the whole soup idea until I tried this Recipe. My 10 yr old daughter wanted to make tomato soup herself which opened it up for me to attempt a raw version for me (she says she loves her cooked food but she's always trying my raw experiments) I closed my eyes & tried my soup & was very pleasantly surprised. Needless to say we both found our favorite homemade version of tomato soup tonight! Very interested in a good cream of mushroom if you have any suggestions. Thanks for all you do, I've been reading & trying your recipes for a long time but I've never commented... You saved my perception of raw soups tonight- kudos!

Hi Melissa, I felt the same way about raw soup!! I didn't have my first (good) raw soup 'til I'd been raw fod at least two years! I do have a cream of mush that is good too:  http://www.therawtarian.com/raw-cream-mushroom-soup-recipe

RAWSOME ! I have done about 7 variations of this recipe in addition to your original version ( which is great) and it seems hard to screw up. I have use red peppers / substituted cashews with RAW sunflower seeds - have used avacoda - Cayanne - on one occasion I added 2 tbs of organic pasture heavy cream ( of course now its 90% raw) They all are so easy and so great.

Thanks a million and by the way you are Rawckin sexy !!

Peace
julie

Can you make ahead for next day?

This would probably be ok made one day in advance, however you will want to give it a good stir and also probably warm it up a bit (in bowl in dehydrator maybe?) because it might be a bit odd completely cold right out of fridge. Or if you could reblend in blender that's warm it up again - but it will also dirty your blender again so might defeat the purpose of making in advance :)

Ooh, just tried this and it's delicious! With a nut allergy though, I had to try substitute and the closest I could get was roasted soya beans so used them (soups still mostly raw!)

Next time try adding avocado instead of nuts for creaminess :)
