Recipe Directions

  • 1. Add pecans to food processor. Process until quite small - resembling coarse flour.
  • 2. Add dates. Process until well combined and you can't even see the dates any more.
  • 3. Break a perfectly ripe banana (not too hard and not too soft) into chunks and add to food processor mixture. Process again until banana is well combined.
  • 4. Spread mixture onto parchment paper. Dehydrate in your dehydrator for approximately 8 hours.

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Enjoy this raw turtles recipe batter ooeh and gooey straight out of the food processor for a super sugary, caramel style nut fudge. Or spread onto a dehydrator sheet and dehydrate for caramel candies.

The flavor of my raw turtles recipe is super sweet pecan pie with a subtle hint of banana flavor.

The main downside to this mixture is that it's super sticky and can be a bit of a pain to wash from the food processor.

"Curiously, certain fruits such as bananas, chestnuts, kiwi fruit, avocado and tomato13 show cross-reactivity, perhaps because of resemblance to a latex protein component. These foods have been responsible for anaphylactic reactions in latex-sensitive persons, while many other foods, including figs, apples, celery, melons, potatoes, papayas and pitted fruits, such as cherries and peaches, have caused progressive symptoms beginning with oral itching.14 Persons with a history of reactions to these foods are at increased risk of developing latex allergy, and those who are sensitive to latex should avoid foods to which they have had previous reactions. While food cross-reactions remain an evolving area of knowledge, it is clear that the elimination of all of these foods would cause significant dietary restriction and is therefore not recommended categorically for latex-allergic persons."

I've been hyper-aware of any issues ever since my latex "sensitivity" developed. I later found that eating avocado made me VIOLENTLY ill (when at first it just caused some indigestion).

I have that same allergy, Kirsten. Weird, that connection of foods. Thankfully, I don't have a problem with bananas - but I do with the avocado, kiwi, tomato and latex (band-aids and such). In fact, I just got my dehydrator today and this is the first recipe I'm going to try! :)

Hi Laura, I am so glad I found your website! I have recently doing some soul searching about food and how it effects my health. Have been doing the Paleo thing for a few months and am now considering going mostly or completely raw. Many raw food recipes seem too fussy and "gimmicky" to me, but I have been looking through your website and you make it so simple and delicious looking! Thank you so much for the inspiration!

I just found your website a couple days ago, and when I saw this recipe I couldn't wait to try it! I made it this morning and it was SO good! I froze half the recipe and ate the other half for breakfast! I think I'm going to make a chocolate sauce to put on the frozen ones to eat for tomorrow's breakfast!!!

This is good! I just made a fourth of it. I put little scoops of it on wax paper and put them in the freezer. Then I made up a batch of the 1 minute fudge and coated the balls - the first one did best. Something about me trying to roll the partially frozen ball in the fudge made it do something weird. And I ended up having to smear the fudge on the balls anyways. So now the coated balls are in the freezer, think I am going to stick a pecan in each one to give it something crunchy. All in all, I am very excited! Thanks for those recipes.

Just realized my post may seem confusing - the 'it' that went weird was the 1 minute fudge. I am guessing temperature change and coconut oil? But it is still good together.

That sounds yummy!

I agree that the 1-minute fudge probably would be difficult to work with as far as chocolatey coating... I will work on a better choc substitute.

Thanks for posting your ideas, Hope. You're inspiring me to do more with chocolate

Perhaps roll the sticky balls in raw carob for a chocolate hit. Would stop them from sticking together too :)

This is absolutely delicious! I could only make a half batch because I was running low on pecans. I will definitely be making this again.

Thanks for another easy yet amazing recipe!

I think half a batch is plenty - especially because it's so sweet.

I am glad you liked. It is an easy one!
