Should I sprout all my seeds and nuts?

Hello all. 

I have been grinding up my seeds and nuts with water in a nutribulit.

i then add this to my oat breakfast. Would I be better sprouting them first.

I could also find out whether the things I have are actually alive.

A previous post has asked whether my groats that won’t sprout are in fact healthy.

    Sprouting them would be beneficial. It may also make them easier to digest. I'd say go for it. 

  • The only nuts that can really be sprouted are almonds. Nuts should be soaked, however. The soaking times vary depending on the hardness of the nuts which is largely dictated by oil content. So rule of thumb is that almonds, hazelnuts and pistachios(harder nuts) soak for about 4-8 hours; Brazil nuts, pecans and walnuts have a higher oil content and only call for a 2-4 hour soak and cashews, macadamias and pine nuts can soak for just an hour. None of these last three have skins either so soaking isn't as important. 

    Seeds are another story. Hemp and flax don't sprout. Sunflower seeds and sesame seeds and pumpkin seeds will sprout.
