Chia vs. Salba?

I'm a raw vegan who lives on a stomach tube and has to blend everything, so the idea of chia/salba gel and all it's nutrient properties sounded really good to me. I can obtain both Chia seeds, and Salba, where I live, but Salba is of course more expensive. What's the major differences between the two, and about how much does a person go through in a week?

  • In my research the only difference I found was Salba is branded and the seeds are white. I get my white seeds from Remi-tea online for a most reasonable price and reasonable shipping. Chia does not go rancid for a very long time - lasts for a couple of years, so you can take advantage of a good sale or good shipping deal. I can't say how much you might use per week - don't know your fat requirements and protein requirements. The only reason I like the white seeds better is visual when I am using the gel in my juices. I think you will find chia a very beneficial addition to your tube diet.

I need about 185 calories from fat/day, and right around 30g of protein, although personally I tend towards the version of thought which states that not only do we need far less protein than the generally accepted RDA, but that it's not protein at all, but amino acids which are a requirements, and can be obtained from vegetables.

In any case, I'll probably be getting a small amount of protein/fat from a little bit of hemp milk every day, but do you have any idea based on the above requirements how much chia I'd need/day?

according to chiaseedsdirect, there are more antioxidents in the black seeds. http://www.chiaseedsdirect.com/shippinginfo.html

i think i read somewhere that salba patented their white seed or something so that's why it's more.

  • Thats correct salba seeds are a patented brand of chia seeds that are white. These have no real advantage over the black chia seeds. The place I get my chia from is the cheapest place in Europe I could find on line www.buychiaseeds.info

They also have alot of information on site and are posted first class.

Hope you are using these super seeds to their best advantage...

I watched a good YT video about the difference. I have no idea whether it's all hype of not, but the video seemed to indicate that there were many types of chia, and salba was the most nutrient-rich version. Not sure if it's simply a scam though!
