Calling all forty somethings!!!

We can all go on and on about the raw vegan lifestyle and what it has done for us in so many ways (exception – sore subject for me – weight loss)..BUT can anyone tell me if going raw has “taken their edge off”? Even as a compassionate vegan I still found myself getting angry at some of the silly things in life i.e. getting in line at the check out behind the last person on earth still writing checks! Anyway, has going raw impacted your ability to “lose it”? It has made me the peacefull hippie I longed to be back in the 70’s…I use the term “hippie” in lovingly way – not degrading or anything like that…

Seriously, where did my edge go? I find that my day job is easier to tolerate as a result too. The competitive edge of always needing to be first just doesn’t exist any more.

Peace…

I wonder if this might be a consequence of growing older and growing up, as opposed to going raw.
Ya gotta pick your battles, as my grandma told me.
War in Iraq, orrrrrrrrrr last in line at the grocery? :)

But I do know that quitting coffee really helped mellow me out, and I’m a writer. I think it’s the law that we are supposed to drink copious amounts of coffee.

Thanks for the response…I don’t know…I have been vegan for years and never felt this peaceful about life in general. Gosh I hope this isn’t just growing old…being passive sucks…:)

    Peace

You’re welcome; I would also hazard a guess that your surroundings are more peaceful. A good partner, great kids, nice home, fantastic job, good health, yummy raw food, etc.

And just remember there’s a time to be passive and a time to be aggressive ;)

I don’t think my grandma said it and I’d rather not visualize it.

Wow! Are you sure you don’t write fairy tales…who has a life like that? I am in a Post-Katrina nightmare…and I fancied myself a better than average vegan cook so the non-cooking has been a challenge but very tasty…my health rocks…you see where I am going with this? Other than that it’s pretty bleek…:)

There is still a strange shade of grey over the city…

    Peace

  • im 35, so im gonna consider myself 40 something just for this post :) eating raw and vegan no question has a huge impact on my attitude especially the anger part. i found myseklf putting up with alot more than i used to. a simple example: the car in front of me comes to a complete stop, at the stop sign and then goes, and im not screaming at him to hurry up :)

Hahahaha! Well I certainly don’t have a life like that. Heck, I still struggle to get a date on Saturday night.
As far as Katrina is concerned, you have my best wishes. I was stationed in the military at Keesler Air Force Base, in Biloxi/Gulfport before all the casino crap (1980), and thought it was an amazing area. We used to drive to New Orleans each weekend to sow the wild oats.
Sadly, that area will never be the same, period.

  • Yeah – dude – you are close enough …. and I agree totally – but I still would like to get my edge back…like I said – I am in a very competitive business and it doesn’t appear to matter to me – at all – what the “other” guys are doing…

    Peace

I don’t know what part of the country you are in…but chicks down here generally swoon over writers, musicians, poets and artists…You would have a tough time choosing….

I agree (I think the whole world was better in the 80’s)...I can live without my cell, laptop and iPod…in a heartbeat -just let me trade them for a vineyard, 4-5 animals and barefeet….

k, im 39, i noticed that quitting coffee, sodas made me nicer, like willmize did, but i also noticed that i have a new little voice since going raw, it usually says “or there are other ways of looking at this situation” Its nice…being ubber emotional in my younger years( 2 years ago heehee)I like not being at the whim of my emotions…yoga helps tons. I used to swim 2 miles 5 days a week and while i left there more peaceful from fatigue, Yoga keeps me balanced.. no more massive, wierd hormonal, swings. no more swimming either, hurts stuff, to tireing…

Ive been accused of being a bohemian by my dear old dad but alas i missed the true hippie era…like the clothes though!~ good luck vegan punk( hey… maybe thats the sourse of your angst…”punk”) cheers

  • Hi I am in my 40’s (early 40’s) deciding to start eating living foods has completely changed my life. It was such a gift of love to myself that it has changed my attitude and behaviour towards the outside world completely. I am more open, my attitude is softer, more kind. The playful, childlike trusting side of me is more present. I am less fearful, less anxious and a happier person. I do not know if its exclusively eating live foods that has done all of this, but I can tell you that before “going raw” in April of this year although I wanted to live this way and had these feeling of love and openess and trust inside of me I could not live this way.
Eating live foods brings out the best in me. Yay!

I’m 42 and I definitely notice a difference with the level of peace in my life when I’m eating raw. I have just had a week or so of eating not only cooked food but junk and sugar, too and although the aggitation isn’t back yet, I feel dull and tired and I look different. My face puffs up, my vision isn’t nearly as sharp of clear and the little wrinkles around my eyes return. I’m joining MissThomas’s juice feast to get my glow back!
