I used to be huge and sick!

chriscarltonchriscarlton Raw Newbie

In 2001 I was 363 pounds (27 Stone) and very ill. Under the care of 3 Doctors and taking plenty of pills, I would yearly end up hospitalized and with no explanation. I had Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure and Hypertension. I was approved for a radical Gastric Bypass called a BPD/DS as well. I walked away from all that and began my journey into super health in 2002. First went boxed foods, then I became Veggie, then Vegan. I was introduced to Raw in 2003 and I knew it was for me. I began experimenting right away and finally went 100% in January of 2005. In total I have lost 160+ pounds (12+ stone) and I am now in amazing health. I am 41 and I now have the energy of my teenage years, even more. Who needs Viagra? You can see my Before & After pictures on my website purelyraw.com .

Gone Raw is most definitely in my top 5 raw websites and will soon be on my links page as well. Cheers to Ray & Kandace!

  • chris,

I am really touched by your story, also because I can relate to it to a large degree. I do not get hospitalized, but I am over 70 lbs overweight, struggle with self-esteem issues, and feel down and sad a lot. I live in southern Italy, so you really have to work at eating bad food here. I just cannot change my body or mood level issues. I was a vegan back in 96 and maintained it for 2 yrs. I remember being very happy and feeling good about myself. For the last week I have been feeling that I have to do something to change the way that I live, I exercise, used to more often, I am very lethargic these days and lack the energy for my workout routine. Well getting back to my situation, I decided I would go back to eating vegan again, started doing research on the net and stumbled on this raw food movement and lifestyle. It may be big in the US but here in this small sicilian town I live in it is not known. Well I was so encouraged by the positivity, success stories and positive vibes I picked up by people like you. Thank you for being so encouraging. It is day 3 for me, I did a fast yesterday to detox, felt weird. Headache, cravings. I feel better today though. I made a shake for breakfast. I will go shopping this afternoon and I also wanted to tell the people who run this website that it is awesome. Its the least commercial and most helpful site I have found. For the first time in a long time I feel hopeful. Thank you

I am just starting a raw life after about a year of research, web searching and becoming emotionally ready. I am overweight, lethargic, occasionally depressed and ready for a health quest. I have been evangelical about green smoothies for a year since I found Victoria Boutenko’s website and just the addition of green smoothies daily has changed the way I feel radically. I am grateful to have such support and community on the web! Thank you to everyone.

Hi Chris: Thank you for sharing. This touches home, as heart disease touches my own family. Many doctors have told those I know that heart disease in incurable, yet is seems that there must be a better way! How much of a change in the heart disease do you see after going raw?

Hi kandace, It’s gone! My Cholesterol is below 100. My Heart is Happy! My veins are clear and my BP is 118/78 or so. Yoga helps also. I recommend ‘Bikram Yoga’, either at a class or at home with his book and CD.

That is so weird Kandace because the doctors I know say with the proper food and exercise the heart disease will go away. I guess it’s different when they are friends of your mom. My mom is a nurse.
