Wow! How on earth do you make homemade coconut oil?!????
I like the DME Alpha brand of extra virgin coconut oil. Its the only one I’ve used so far and I think its fine, although I heard that the Nutiva brand is pretty good and creamy.
But HOMEMADE!! Wow, I hope there’s no special appliance needed to make HOMEMADE coconut oil!
My friend makes hers similar to this way:

I would make my own, but it takes so long and I just don’t have the time right now. Grating and waiting seems to take the most time =) Maybe in the summertime…
Does DME or Nutiva melt rather quickly? I tried a brand I purchased from Mercola.com and was disappointed because it didn’t melt quickly on contact.
Thank you for the article. Well, I don’t know how quick your definition of melting is but I’d say the DME melts fairly quickly. It also has a very rick aromic scent that is absolutely irrisistable! I just slathered some on my face and I love it. If you mean melt quickly when rubbed on the skin, yes it does! But you know, even though I think the DME is awesome, I always feel that homemade is best so I don’t know how it would compare to the one your friend makes. Anyway, hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
I order the Nutiva from Amazon.com (grocery) and get it delivered for free if I get over $25 worth of specific products. It seems to melt easy for me. Love the smell and taste. Wish I could get homemade..mmmm. I use it as a oil and as a moisturizer. tortue…I never thought of using it on my hair! I will have to try it-lol
This is the only brand I buy for coconut oil and products. You will smell the fresh difference in their products versus others. Incomparable Raw organic centrifuged coconut oil and low-temperature dehydrated coconut flakes. The flavor and quality are unsurpassed. http://www.wildernessfamilynaturals.com/
Cheers!
Nutiva is very good. Organic, extra virgin, cold-pressed. Smells and tastes excellent (like fresh coconut). I also buy from Amazon. Good price!
