pimples?

i’ve been raw for about a month now (did a 30 day challenge, and i think it’s gonna stick!) but i’ve gotten way more pimples than normal this month. anyone else have this problem? some of it seems like maybe a rash on my face even. no good.

I get that problem if I eat too many sweet fruits (like bananas and what not) and not eating enough greens.

  • i do eat tons of fruit, but i also eat tons of greens. hmm. good point though.

  • That’s entirely normal. It’s your body’s way of detoxifying itself. In fact it may even get worse before it gets better. I, myself suffered from cystic acne most of my adult life and when initially going raw it got SEVERE for about 2 months and then, almost miraculously my skin became the most beautiful it has ever been. Everyone’s body detoxifies at different rates and even when your skin begins to become ‘clear’ it may still breakout again later on (different cycles of detoxification).

Don’t sweat it; it’s a good thing. Take comfort in knowing your body is healing and pushing toxins out the best way it knows how… via our largest organ, the epidermis.

Drinking greens smoothies will help the process along and even speed it up (make it worse but heal it quicker). I myself drink 2 green smoothies a day (morning and evening) and always include half of a zucchini and cucumber in each one since both are excellent cleansing foods especially for the skin.

You may also try taking a tablespoon of organic Apple Cider Vinegar daily… I usually include it with a glass of detox tea and a packet of stevia (tastes very similar to warm apple cider).

And lastly it is a wise idea to ingest a teaspoon of ground flaxseeds daily. It also helps with skin conditions. I hope this helps; good luck to you and congratulations on going raw!!!

  • definitely detox.

Welcome to the world of detox! Your skin is quite the elimination system. It’s just raw ‘growing pains’. I went through the same thing and some of my pimples were nasty!
Now my skin is wonderful. Check out the post on skin care, I give a few of my natural facial care ‘recipes’

Also make sure you are drinking plenty of water and getting enough flax seeds and fibrous stuff. The urinary system and lower intestine are the other two areas you will eliminate toxins.

Once in a while I do a series of seaweed wraps at the spa where I work. The product is by Phytomere. It is a powdered seaweed that they mix with water and apply to the entire body. It helps facilitate detox through the skin. It’s a two step process. Much sweating is involved! If you are interested in more info. let me know.

I’m interested in the seaweed wrap, sounds interesting! Is it something we can do at home?

  • Luna bluLuna blu Raw Newbie

Hmmm, I am not sure if it is a product you can buy for home use. I am actually going for a wrap tomorrow, and I can ask my coworker if you can get it for home. The thing with being at home though, is that you need to be wrapped in a suana blaket. They are very expensive to buy I am sure! It helps to have someone else do the treatment for you, I will explain the whole procedre:

Your body is first exfoliated with a scrub.
The sea weed goop is now applied to your bod. as much bod as you are comfortabble with exposing.
You get wrapped in the sauna blancket for 20 minutes.
Then you get unwrapped and you shower it off.
Then you get into a shiny silvery plasticy sheet with a plain old blanket over you. now it’s up to you to sweat it out. this stage is about 20 minutes as well. Man, I sweat really good! Some people don’t, so a bunch of treatments are needed until they finally ‘break’ and the sweat and toxins come pouring out!

So, it’s part pampering, part health promoting!

I am exhaousted, I had a loooong day. I appologize for any typos or spelling mistakes, but I am not proof reading this! I may not respond to any other questions till tomorrow! feel free to ask though! :)

    peach and metta!

  • thanks to everyone for the replies. i will just tough it out, and apply bare minerals freely in the meantime ;)

after speaking with a colon hydrotherapist i understand the importance of colonics more than i used it… especially in a raw diet. you are freeing up a LOT of toxins when you go raw. if you let everything go at once but your “passage way” (i.e. colon) is blocked from years of poor food choice, stress, poor food combining, etc… then the toxins release through other “passages” such as the skin. this is a sign to get a colonic or incorporate some cooked food to slow the detox down (those are the therapists words).

colon hydrotherapy is painless i assure you. i lived to tell the tale. =) therawfooddetoxdiet.com has a list of specialists all over the world.

  • my friend had one a few years ago… she wrote this on her experience:

  • Although never having terrible skin, I have always been very sensitive about my complexion…sometimes acting obsessive! Well I have been raw 5 days now and I am feeling pretty well but my skin is freaking out! Dextox sucks! What can I do to move this along quicker?? David Wolfe’s book suggests to eat sweet fruits, water fasts, green juice fasts…I’m curious if doing a fast would possibly shock my system even more making it worse… Anyone have any advice?

I got detox pimples on my chest but not my face! My face has been perfect – better than ever! I don’t know about those colonics. I have a friend who got one and said it was hell. I’d rather do a salt flush. Plus it’s free.

  • I also have pimples now on my face and there are a lot of them. When I went about 95 percent raw about 3 weeks ago my skin was beautiful, but now… however I had been eating a lot of rawfood and not much junkfood before that,
I use tea tree oil on my pimples and I think it helps a lot. I also use aple cider vineger face toner and try to drink a lot of water and tea.

    What is a salt flush?

  • kminty3kminty3 Raw Newbie

flybaby: how do you use apple cider vinegar as a toner? do you use it straight or dillute with water?

  • there was a thread about salt flushes a little while ago… basically you drink salt water and lay on your side for awhile… but there’s more specifics, and i’m not sure what they are.

i’ve been using a face wash with tea tree oil and no sodium laureth sulfates, from desert essence, and a vitamin c moisturizer from avalon organics. i hope they are not the cause of some of the more rash like symptoms.

  • I dilute it with water, add a 1 or 2 drops of essential oil and a some honey. It’s really nice

  • The salt flush is: 4 cups warm water and 2 tablespoons salt (not table salt but uniodized is better, I think thats what it was called)

Mix it up and drink it down….it tastes horrible and might make you want to throw up so be prepared…..I drink it as fast as possible then rinse my mouth with reagular water!

Do it on an empty stomach, so first thing in the morning is best. THen some say lay on your right side for 1/2 hour but when I did that I didn’t get much “movement”...but try it that way

after the 1/2hour go about your morning but stay home!! The rest depends on your body….but generally after about 2 hours you should be safe to go out…just really pay attention to the rumbling in your tummy…it will tell you if it’s safe to leave home!

Then slowly start eating fresh, yummy food!!

I started breaking out when I started oil pulling and drinking green smoothies. I tried several things but have found that taking Pantothenic Acid is the only thing that is helping. I’m taking 20 pills a day for the first three months (halfway through) and they are finally getting under control. I wish you the best of luck as you try to find out what is going to work for your body!
