irish moss

I’d like to incorporate irish moss into my recipes, but am unsure of how to prepare it. I ordered some from Mountain Rose Herbs and it seems like I should soak it…? anyhow, no recipes listed here for this spectacular sea veggie- anyone hiding a few under their hat?

thanks! Heather

Cheflandria’s Mango Cheesecake uses a little Irish Moss. I think she has a couple other dessert recipes which use it as well. :)

Anytime you want to thicken something irish moss is your ingredient!

Did you know that it is used in all sort of foods and even in products like shampoo to thicken things? It is normally seen under the name carrageenan

Whether or not you have to do any prepartion to the Irish moss is dependant on what shape you bought it in. If it is in flakes, it is probably already prepared for you. If it is in seaweed shape, you need to soak it to activate the important properties.

I just got some irish moss yesterday from David Wolfes site – I opted for the flakes since they were cheaper and already ready for use. He also sells it in seaweed form.
