I WISH I could forage seaweed around here!
What a great idea!
Hey, I just moved to Seattle and also want to learn about foraging sea vegetables. Did you find out anything about it by now?
I haven’t found out anything and I posted a similar question a few weeks ago too. Gonna check out that link above. I guess I’ll have to find some locals who do it when I get to Hawaii.
Hey, I found this interesting link. If you Google: edible+seaweed+wild or similar you’ll find something interesting sources. Here’s a cool site:http://www.hawaii.edu/reefalgae/publications/ediblelimu/index.htm although it’s lacking in pictures.
Sorry, I’m on a roll. Keep finding good sites: http://www.seaweed.ie/default.lasso Info on classes for foraging the Northwest and dinners!: http://www.veggiegardeningtips.com/exploring-no… http://www.herbvideos.com/ewpindex.htm#seashore
eyloni i have not learned anything else but my focus has not been on it. i just went to the acquarium the other day and started drooling at the seedweed. LOL!
thanks carmentina for the links.
Yes as an Oregon coastal foager I ditto that. Thanks Carmentina.
Newbie forager here, the only advice I have for you is to not eat the seaweed on the beach. You must cut your own, fresh, if you want it to be safe.
hey bitt, every single sea vegetable on the beach is edible. it just whether the beach is clean or not. i just harvested some yesterday from trinidad in humboldt county. its very clean up there so im fine with it. as long as you trust that the beach is clean, go for it. hehe -zack
Hey everyone, I just moved to Seattle too! I went to a beach off Puget Sound a few weeks ago and I was wondering the exact same thing.
