they are made of plastic I think which may leech toxins into the food, I dunno, it's made with a special type of plastic which is and isn't safe..not too sure. Either way I have excalibur and am very happy with it.
this website has them http://www.2-life.com/site/good4u_dehydrators.html?OVRAW=good4u dehydrator&OVKEY=good4u dehydrators&OVMTC=advanced&OVADID=27940822012&OVKWID=223766807512

Hi Eloisa,
I got my 10 tray from them (through ebay) and have been very happy with it. This link can show you the comparison with the Excalibur. Mine was 140.00 no shipping, no tax (oops unless you live in FL) You get a really good guarantee and a bunch of extras. I really had to wait and save for it but I can totally recommend it. They also have a 6 tray for 110.00

btw A dehydrator is so worth getting just for the abundant seasonal fruits. I recently got a big container of kiwi that I dried because I knew I couldn't eat fast enough. They came out so good my son went to town on them. Think of the sour jelly candies of childhood (yum) but not made of crap.
I was just looking over the picture and information about this dehydrator. What if you need to remove a tray for depth. As the trays are the doors, keeping some of the trays out would be impossible. I have an Excalibur.
Not too hard to deal with. How would you stop a draft? The couple of times I wanted to remove trays to accommodate a bowl or cup cake liners I just blocked the front with a rolled up kitchen towel.
Good point though, I'm ok without a door but maybe others would be annoyed.
You might want to also check out stainless steel dehydrators before making up your mind. They're a little expensive, but the advantages seem significant enough to justify the cost. There are several threads on here from last summer. Just do an Advanced Search, put stainless steel dehydrator in the Containing the Phrase box and check the Forum topic box.
This one points some of the pros and cons and includes comments by a couple of stainless dehydrator owners: http://www.goneraw.com/node/17794. There are several other threads all with good information.
Here's to your health and happy dehydrating.
Brenda
Thanks everyone for your comments and links - much appreciated! I'll have to investigate on both ends to see what would work best for me..
i looked at the good4U but I just bought a L'equip filter pro and I love it. I've had an excalibur in the past and it was ok but the temperature could not be controlled that well.
Mine has a constant monitoring of the temp so what you put in is what you get throughout the unit.
You can add and subtract trays so you are not heating empty space.
The good4U just looked too plasticy and amateur to me.
I think this is going to become more popular as people get to know about it.
I use parchment paper for the liquid stuff.
I had a L'equip dehydrator in the past and a lot of the crumbs accumulated on the bottom and there was sticky residues that I couldn't clean up, basically it was hard to clean. But I was lazy and would let a lot of time fly by before I bothered..lol..so the Excalibur works better for me as long as I don't turn the temp past 100. Otherwise lequip was nice. I agree though the good4u looks too plasticy.
One thing I noticed is that the actual drying space is bigger than a 5 tray excalibur but smaller than a 9 tray. Personally I wouldn't want to do without a door. I use mine a lot for glass baking pans, bowls and plates. It's a great way to make the food a little warm without any of it ever going to to high a temp like it would in a pan.
I have the good4u and I love it. I had an excalibur before and well, it was plasticy too-just dark plastic :) And the door seemed awkward. Whatever-different strokes for different folks.
I find the good4u to dry more evenly, easy to control and extremely easy to clean. The only downside is that the doors are on the drawers-which I liked until I wanted to do a cupcake tray or somthing. Now- thanks to gratefultobe I'll just roll up a towel to block the draft. It's a little sad that I couldn't come up with that myself lol
Thanks for the warning, Rawkidchef. I just checked under the bottom tray of my L'equip and found a few crumbs but they just wiped up easily with a paper towel. Maybe there has been a redesign since you had yours.
I'm not actually using it much right now because I'm starting with a fruits and greens cleanout until the end of January. After that I might get more into dehydrating stuff.
