Tortillas

Hey everyone! I am now starting to transition to raw (I'm hoping to be around 90% by midApril as the farmer's market opens). Right now one of my favorite foods is tacos (tortilla with lettuce, tomato, onion, guacamole, black beans...YUM) and so I want to transition it over to raw which really would not be that hard to do. I'm stuck on the tortillas though...I do not have a dehydrator, nor will I have one any time soon and I've been looking through the recipes to see if there are any tortilla/wrap recipes that DON'T require dehydration. I'm not seeing any. I mean I know I could make lettuce wraps and just cut out the tortilla all together buuuuut if anyone knows of a wrap or even flatbread/pita sort of recipe that DOESN'T need a dehydrator, I would love you forever!!!! :)

How low does your oven go? Some people are able to use their oven on a low setting in place of a dehydrator.

You might be able to find raw corn chips online or in a health food store so you could do nachos instead - which would be kinda sorta the same.

  • The lowest my oven goes to is 200 degrees and then there's a setting below that "WM" which I have no idea what that means...

I am a corn chip and salsa fiend so that is a good idea...I was just thinking that maybe there was some sort of recipe where you could make the tortilla and then just let it sit out for awhile (not in the dehydrator) and it would not exactly harden but remain in its form when I wanted to wrap stuff in it? Haha I don't know

There are quite a few threads that talk about using a conventional oven to dehydrate. http://www.goneraw.com/search/node/type:forum dehydrate "oven"

iluvlife~ A suggestion... Try putting an oven thermometer in your oven to find out what temp "WM" (warming) is. Run the oven for about 15-30 minutes and then check the temp.

If you are dehydrating stuff in your oven, you might want to use a thermometer anyway to check temp and then adjust by opening the door for a bit to adjust if needed... or even keeping the door open a crack during the whole drying process...

    Happy drying...

  • This is my favorite recipe for tacos sans any dehydrator.
