seeing glitter in my eyes.. strange

Recently I have noticed that if I close my eues and reopen them sometimes I see silver glitter or sparkles.. I have no idea what it is.. any ideas. Im vegan.. no so raw anymore. I eat atleast 50% cooked now.

I eat lots of tahini.. its my joy of life, nuts, beans, fresh fruit and vegetables.. I drink water. I am wheat intolerant.. but still eat it sometimes.. seems no connection with eating wheat though..

Im quite confused..

  • I see the same glittery floaties. I believe I am seeing energy. David Wolfe talks of this on one of his YouTube vids.

I've seen those "glittery floaties" from time to time after a good run or workout, usually when taking a hot shower. I thought it could be the result of endorphins. Good to know I'm not alone in experiencing this. I've had this happen even before going raw (sep 07). Would love to hear about other experiences and theories :-)

Floaters and lights can also be signs of a detached retina or vitreous detachment. It can require laser surgery. I love David Wolfe as much as the next person, but if you're over 50 or have been to any Megadeth concerts, I'd check with an eye doctor to verify that you're just "seeing energy."

  • Floaters are pretty normal. Almost everyone experiences them. I have personally experienced them since I was about 7 years old (but I have worn glasses since I was eight) I don't think they're anything to worry about, unless you feel light headed too. :)

  • bittbitt Raw Newbie

yes there's a teacher at my school who just got a detached retina. the first sign is seeing floaters!

  • I saw the silver glitter whilst taking a shower once. I thought it was something spiritual but I may had been wrong.

  • ambiguousambiguous Raw Newbie

I've seen the light floaters while in the shower too . . . when it happens I feel like something's physically wrong, like I really need a better nutrient balance. I think it happens more when I'm tired.

FWIW, I think David Wolfe is very good at marketing, but doesn't have anything of value to offer otherwise.

  • I've been seeing those "little sparkles" my entire life (in blue and red, though.) I recently got glasses and I don't really see them as often unless I feel light headed.

  • I too love David Wolfe, but "floaties" really need to be checked by an eye doctor. If nothing is found, then great, you really are seeing weird energy forces, ha. But if something is found, you will be happy you went. I actually have cataracts covering both eyes, I was born with them and from time to time I will see the same floaties. No big deal says the Dr., but I definitely make a point of checking in every couple of years.

  • I started seeing the *glitteries* not floaties when I learned how to run energy through the body about 5 years ago. My eyes have been checked yearly with no problems found. I find it interesting not worrisome. One of these days I'll figure out what they are.

I have a lot of floaters but that is not the same thing as the glitters

I only saw them once when I was hiking up a hill and my asthma kicked in. Instead of reaching for the inhaler I decided to try a breathing exercise and then i saw them. They reminded me of Stephen Kings "The Green Mile"

and decided it was the problem in my lungs being cast out like the cancer in the movie!! Which could just be the energy of the problem leaving I guess. No matter what it was I was really wowed and Yep I felt better too!!

  • This happened to me in the shower about two months ago too - only in the shower (just like other people have said). It didn't feel like there was anything wrong with my eyes, and it was actually a pretty positive experience. I don't think it is floaters. If it happened to me all the time though, I'd probably see an eye doctor, and probably some sort of naturopathic source, to figure out what is causing it to occur so frequently.

  • Yeah, please get this checked out. As Suasoria said, it may indicate serious problems. For me it was the sign of a small hole in my retina, and that is something to keep track of in case it becomes larger, leads to detachment and blindness. Hope it's nothing, though.

  • elizabethhelizabethh Raw Newbie

Yeeah...although it's possible you're "seeing energy" (I guess), it's probably worth getting checked out. Like someone above me said, if nothing's wrong, THEN you can feel free to buy into the energy thing (although I wouldn't LOL)!

  • my grandma had floaters & she had to get eye surgery lol

  • Ha. I've never been one to complain of illness--I've always thought I'm just like everyone else. I've seen "floaties" since I was a child. They'd consume everything in sight with all colors--running everywhere and over-lapping each other; sometimes running up my arms and legs. Pretty cool. I never knew what it was; never considered trying to find out. Not sure if it's the same; they were EVERYWHERE. I haven't had an episode in a while. I must have lost my gift.

I also have the spots when I'm dizzy or my body temp is off--but not like what I experienced as a child.

Loved Suasoria's comment about Megadeath. What a cool chick.

  • SuasoriaSuasoria Raw Newbie

Chattanoog -- could it have been synesthesia?

Megadeath...you know, because of the headbanging and all.

  • I also think floaters and glitteries are different. I get the glitter when I'm light headed too.

Floaters are a bit more solid and less sparkly. In chinese medicine they are associated with the liver and can be a sign that we are detoxing or that we need to!

I don't usually post lengthy quotes from web sources, but this issue is far too important to take lightly. I've formatted some words in bold for emphasis.

Floaters are something very specific. They appear as "shadows on your retina". From the Mayo Clinic web site:

Eye floaters look like black or gray specks, strings or cobwebs that drift about when you move your eyes. Most eye floaters are caused by age-related changes that occur as the jelly-like substance (vitreous) inside your eyes becomes more liquid.

When this happens, microscopic fibers within the vitreous tend to clump together. These clumps of debris float around within the vitreous cavity, and they can cast tiny shadows on your retina, which you may see as floaters.

Eye floaters are most noticeable when you look at a plain bright background such as a blue sky or a plain white wall. They can be a nuisance, but most people learn to ignore them.

If you notice a sudden increase in the number of eye floaters you see, contact an eye specialist immediately

  • emptdmom---Thanks for the article post! If this is what everyone was talking about I may have misunderstood. I get those from time to time and have always considered it normal because it would go away.

  • Okay...... Im "kinda" freakin out??

In the past........ Ive seen "floaters" Usually ... blackish and whitish.............. I HAVE seen meagadeth though!! LOL!!

But just "recently" last two weeks or so, eating more raw than usual........ and a few days ago.. IN THE SHOWER.....=S

I saw "glittery" "floaters.............. thought it was interesting, and Wierd............ but they were "different" than in the past.................................... In the past they were black and white and some times I felt "dizzy".

In the shower, I was having an NICE warm shower, after a LONG HARD week at work on my feet at LEAST 10 hrs a day in HOT heat, as a nurse..................... but these . "sparkles" in my shower...... were different...................... and I didnt feel "dizzy " as usual like when I see "floaters"....

hmmmmm............... would LOVE to hear MORE!!!

I have a huge floater in my right eye. Sometimes I "play" with it to get a better look; it's a long string with a large clump in the first third of the total length. Other times it catches me off guard and I think there's a bug flying around! Fortunately my eye doctor said there's nothing wrong in that eye.

I've also seen the sparkles, but I think of them more like small fireworks because they seem to explode. The last time it happened I had been working in the yard and came inside for a drink. It was a "pretty" experience but also a bit scary not knowing what it was (or if I was about to faint). It doesn't happen frequently enough to worry about... Its funny because they always make me think of cosmic rays shooting down to the earth and passing through my head - LOL!!!

  • I have been seeing floaters in my eye since I was about two or three years old. I was sitting in a red wagon outside with older sister and my baby sister while my oldest sister pulled us. I looked up into the sky and noticed them for the first time. Since then they have kind of just been there. I learned to live with them. I am pretty much used to them to the point where I dont even notice them.

As far as the sparklies. I noticed seeing them upon becoming raw. I think it is because I am getting more ciculation in my eye. It doesnt happen often, but every now and then, Ill see a twitching glittery thing in the corner of my eye. It's only for just a split second. Then it's gone.

  • chattanoog, it sounds like you and some others have been experienced what is sometimes called an ocular migraine (or silent migraine, or eye migraine). I've had the symptoms you described since I was a very small child, in addition to many other extreme visual symptoms like kaleidoscope patterns over my vision, objects appearing to vibrate or rush into the distance, negative afterimage (the retention of an object in my vision even after it has physically left, only in a negative color spectrum, like the negatives of a photograph). Other symptoms of eye migraines include seeing sparkles or fireworks, or temporarily losing parts of your vision. Some people with eye migraines experience the regular, painful migraines, and some (like me) rarely or never do. Many people who experience them as children grow out of it. Generally, people with adult-onset are menopausal women, but anyone can get them, and you may only experience one in your entire life. Like other migraines, the cause has something to do with the constriction and expansion of blood vessels in your head, which can be caused by things such as a warm shower, or physical exertion, or recovering from an asthma attack. ampallang, one of my migraine triggers can be moving too quickly from darkness to light, or vice versa. Sounds like that may be a trigger for you too, since you're noticing these sparkles when closing and opening your eyes. Personally, I get a lot less eye migraines now that I've learned to get the right amount of sleep, eat properly, and manage my stress levels. But I never got my drivers license because the severity of my symptoms could make it dangerous to drive.

Not all family doctors are familiar with eye migraines, but knowledge is becoming more widespread. I was diagnosed with them by a neurologist, after being tested for ocular epilepsy and brain tumors, which can have the same symptoms. Like others are saying, some of the symptoms can also signify a problem with your retina. So its a good idea to get checked out. Anyone with eye migraines should be aware that you're at a higher risk for stroke than the general population, and if you're female, this risk can be exacerbated by hormonal birth control, so you should be using other birth control options instead.

I hope that helps. If anyone has any questions about this, this is a topic I'm quite interested in (as you can probably tell form the length of my post, lol.) and it's really cool to hear that some others on here have similar experiences.

For those that like to think they're seeing energy, in a way you are, just as we're all seeing energy all the time in the form of light. Just in this case, the energy you see is being messed with by other energy - the electric impulses in your brain, which are in turn being messed with by the kinetic energy of the blood rushing through your veins. The human body is sooo cool.

I experience two types of these glittery lights. They are both distinct from each other.

One is when my blood pressure is slightly low. My eyes can be closed or open. The glitteries I see here are white, tiny, precise and move across my field of vision. I have had these for as long as I can remember.

The other is when I meditate. My eyes can be closed or open. The glitteries I see here are white, blue and purple. They are larger, softer and fuzzy around the edges. I've had them for as long as I've been meditating and they increase in frequency when my meditation increases. My meditation teacher told me that it's due to increased concentration.

DeborahBee and birdpooped  - thanks for great info. I just experienced it 3 days ago and it FREAKED me out. Never had them before. Looks like sand particles pouring towards you, or as other commenter said  - cosmic rays. I still have it. The more i look into the same object, the faster they spin and become a bit larger - scary tho, like a swarm of flies because it gets darker. Should I be concerned and see doc, or get a good rest and stop playing Candy Crush 2 nights in a row with no sleep and food? Oh, beer too :\ I am serious...

It's hard to tell if that's floaters, a medical issue, or the imprint of gems from Candy Crush still floating through your vision. How are you feeling otherwise, Korn?

ok so since 2012 sometimes when i step into the shower i see these fireworks/glittery lights all over..its the most beautiful thing and ic an still see everything behind it but i get a little light headed and lose my balance... i was at  my eye doctor on monday and i asked her what this could be, she asked me a few questions and said this was a sign of MS - and now im in the process of getting diagnosed.  please if you see eye changes, please go talk to eye doctor and your primary.  change from a cold room to a hot shower is a classic sign of MS... like if your eyes change when you step into shower.  after looking at all of the symptoms, i have every single one.  and i was like the rest of you, thinking its energy, just a cool effect, being self aware and a higher consciousness... etc....  please please dont wait.

My eye doctor swears up and down that mine are normal. I'm going to be really annoyed if we find out later on that it's not.

Has anyone tried using eye drops (or crying) just to see if they can be moved by water?
