Pimples-Help Please!!!!!

Hi everyone, I have been on a candida diet for about 6 weeks and it is going well and I am starting to feel a lot better. I have had the lymphatic drainage massage and have had 2 sessions of colon hydrotherapy. I am very slowly transitioning over to raw. I am starting to decrease my chicken consumption (which used to be a twice a day every day) and am eating lots of nuts and vegetables. I still can't have a lot of fruit because of the sugar.

My concern is the pimples all over my face. I am 33 and have never had as many pimples as I do now. They are tiny red ones, with white puss in them. I am a little frustrated and embarrassed. I don't know what is causing this. I stopped taking caprylic acid thinking that it was that causing it and they haven't disappeared. I haven't done anything else differently. Can anyone offer any advice? I am sick of hiding behind my hair for these past 2 weeks and nothing is working. Help!

this could be a detox effect, esp since they are pussing. Your body could be working through some old nasty stuff. Just keep your skin clean and hydrated.

I personally always have a breakout after a colon hydrotherapy session. I think its just all that old gunk getting moved and removed.

i agree that this could very well be a detox symptom. i'm an esthetician, and it is true that any internal cleansing or unbalance will appear on your face, in the form of pimples. pus represents bacteria and sebums oxidizing in the pimple.

they will most likely clear up as your body becomes more and more cleansed of its toxins.

i recommend cleansing the face twice daily, and spot treating the pimples with a gentle (natural) salicylic acid or tea tree oil. it is helpful to then tone the face, which will remove any excess oils while retaining mositure, exfoliating at night to help slough off dead skin cells and assist in cellular turnover, and mositurize with a lotion that is not too heavy (oil-free!) as you are experiencing breakouts. it should also contain an spf!

good luck to you! hope this is helpful advice.

  • Thank you for all of your help. I was so desperate that I went out and bought ProActiv...not sure if this was a wise thing to do. Do you have any recommendations for skin care products that are natural and effective? ProActiv states that their stuff is natural but I am not too sure. I know the pimples will go away eventually, hopefully sooner than later but it is still very embarrassing and I feel so dirty even though I take very good care of myself.

Anyway, how often should I exfoliate and what do you recommend to use to exfoliate? Are one of those scrub products good enough?

  • superfood2superfood2 Raw Newbie

I don't think you're supposed to use scrubs especially when you're broken out because you'll just cause microscopic tears and cause the pus to be released all over your skin.

I would use a glycolic or salicylic acid wash (You can get them at WF or health food stores) and a toner.

  • teacupteacup Raw Newbie

ah! do not use proactive! that stuffs not natural at all and terrible for your skin over a long period of time, though if you cannot return it and do use it it would most likely clear up your skin.

a scrub will cause tiny tears in your skin, they are way too abrasive to be used on a face, especially one that is broken out. salicylic acid is probably all you need .

you should exfoliate once daily, at night, after you have cleansed and toned your face and before you use any treatment products, eye cream, or moisturizers.

as for product brands i use aveda, because i went to an aveda institute for school and still have a ton of left over product. otherwise in the past i've used dessert essence and burts bees. both can be easily found at almost any health store. just go to whole foods or trader joes and you'll find something suitable.

otherwise lush is an awesome product line, so is suki but that's a little more expensive. here's a great website with a ton of organic skin care

I like Aubrey Organics, MyChelle, Talulah Skincare.....those are good starting points, but everyone is so different, just depends on your skin, your diet, the time of year, etc.

  • I would throw my hat in the ring as being a huge fan of the oil cleansing method, which has helped clear up my skin. There is plenty of info on it on this site. That being said, if you have never had any problems with pimples before, I would be pretty positive that your current issues are just detox and soon enough you will be fine. Using oil to clean your face though might help quicken the extraction of the crap that is coming out.

  • Thanks everyone. Putiger78 can you elaborate more on the oil cleansing method? What is your skin care regimen and what do you use?

This is really frustrating because the pimples don't seem to be clearing and I get new ones during the day...they are really tiny but all over my face and neck. Can anyone tell me approximately how long I should expect to go through this type of detox?

    Thanks,

    Z

I did a quick Advanced Search and found this thread. Replies 4 and 6 describe Oil Cleansing.

hi! it's not the fruit that is the problem when it comes to candida. you can do an anti-candida diet for months with no result or you can do an all fruit and greens diet and get rid of all your candida symptoms in a week.

your body is telling you something by breaking out. it has so many toxins that it needed a new elimination channel (your skin). if you try anything externally it will interrupt the process of elimination and make it even worse. acne has 100% everything to do with diet and toxins.

if you're having candida problems a diet high in fat is absolutely the culprit.

the best thing i can recommend is going on a water fast for 2-3 days and then eating mono-meals of one kind of fruit all day everyday for a little while and then easing into greens and other fruit.

all this is coming from experience. i had candida and bad acne. i tried every diet there is and nothing works like mother nature's diet (fruits and greens). i struggled with candida for months and switched to a low-fat raw vegan diet that consists of fruits and greens and my symptoms were gone after 2 days.

i recommend reading up about natural hygiene. it is really amazing. any book by herbert shelton, doug graham or t.c. fry will put you on the right path.

also, i do not recommend any type of skincare, it put's more toxins in your system that your body needs to get rid of. it will make the acne worse or it will make it better and make your body sicker because it no longer has that elimination channel. the only thing you should cleanse with is pure water.

  • Thank you. .kelly. when you say a diet high in fat, what do you mean?

I have always eaten very healthy, but mostly a high protein diet because I am very active in marathons, triathlons, weight training etc.

My diet has always been low in fat and I never eat junk. With being on the anti-candida diet, I have increased my essential fatty acids quite a bit and most of my fats come from olive oil and avocado.

I would love to follow a water fast and a mono-meal diet but I am athletic and will be racing in a half marathon in two weeks. If I do this, will I have enough energy? Can you describe what you eat, how much, and how often?

  • kellyannekellyanne Raw Newbie

you're welcome! by high fat i mean avocado, nuts and seeds, oils, etc. eating more than 10% of your calories in fat will make the candida worse and make you really tired. also, if you're eating aleast 2,000 calories a day you don't need more than 10% of those calories from protein. the high-protein thing for athletes is a myth. i know of plenty of unsupplemented athletes that eat an all fruit and greens diet that have LOTS of strength and stamina. many of them run marathons, race bikes, rock climb, etc.

if you input your daily intake on cron-o-meter you would probably be really surprised by your fat intake. here's the website, you can download it for free

    http://spaz.ca/cronometer/

"Excess fat is the culprit in candida, not sugar, per se. When fat levels in the blood rise, so does blood sugar, because excess fat inhibits insulin from performing its function of escorting sugar out of the bloodstream. The excess fat lines the blood vessel walls, the cells, insulin receptor sites, the sugar molecules themselves, and the insulin with a thin coating of fat, thus blocking and inhibiting normal metabolic activity.

Too much sugar in the blood is as life threatening as too little and can result in serious illness or death. Yeast, or candida, is a constant presence in the blood; it serves as a life preservation mechanism, blooming when there is an excess of sugar in the blood stream to bring blood sugar down to a non-threatening level. When the sugar is distributed and used by the cells of the body, the yeast quickly dies off as it is supposed to.

If fat levels stay chronically high due to a poor diet, sugar will remain in the bloodstream and feed the large candida colonies instead of feeding the 18 trillion cells of your body. Starved for fuel, these cells can no longer metabolize energy, and you become tired, and feel rundown. Because all carbohydrate, fat, and protein that we eat is converted to simple sugar (glucose) if it is to be used by the cells for fuel, the way out of this cycle is not to eat less sugar, but to consume less fat. When fat levels drop, the sugar starts to get processed and distributed again, and the yeast levels drop because there is no longer excess sugar available"

try eating 100% raw fruits and greens for a week with no fats and your candida symptoms will be gone. i know from experience. you'll have so much energy and you'll train better than ever. i used to eat high-fat (lots of avocado, nuts and seeds, vegetable oils, etc) i had candida and horrible acne, i had no energy and i could barely get out of bed. my complexion is completely clear now and i have loads of energy. my candida symptoms were gone after 2 days on the diet. i was so bummed that i had wasted the 2 months prior to that on an anti-candida diet that actually made my problems worse while depriving myself of my beloved fruit.

on an average day i eat:

    a watermelon

    4 mangos

    6 tangerines

    4 peaches

    lettuce

    or a watermelon

    10 bananas

    4 mangos

    celery

also, look at the thread i wrote "why are so many on this site afraid of fruit?"

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to write back .kelly.. I have noticed that I am still extremely tired, something I have been battling for over a year and a half. When I first started the anti-candida diet last month I started to get some energy back but now I am noticing that the fatigue is worse and it is making my training suffer! I also notice that the constipation and gas is coming and going which is really frustrating.

Do you find that eating that much fruit is enough for you? I am 5'3 and 125lbs and I always seem to be hungry on my current nutritional plan, I have cut out fruit completely because my naturopath stated that I can't have any sugar or yeast. Daily I eat lots of nuts, salads with lemon and EVOO, chicken breast, lots of veggies, rice milk and oatmeal (for breakfast) and for dinner it is usally fish or chicken with another salad and EVOO.

How often do you eat ? I find I have to eat every 2 or 3 hours to stabilize my blood sugars. Do you feel hungry? Did you lose weight? I could afford to lose a few pounds but I don't want to lose too much.

    Thanks again! :)

no problem! i just want to save you from the misery i had when i was following an anti-candida diet. i used to eat a lot of oatmeal, quinoa, and rice, found out that was why i had such bad indigestion and gas. grains are pretty much undigestible so you'll get a lot of gas and bloating after eating them. meat takes a lot of energy to digest. it can take up to 24 hours to digest as oppose to fruit which takes around 30 min to digest.

fruit is great because it has so much water and fiber. you will have no constipation trouble if you eat lots of fruit.

when i was struggling with candida i listened to everybody that said that fruit and sugar was the problem. after a few months i got sick of being sick and decided to give the 80 10 10 diet a try. wow what a difference!

as long as i get enough calories in fruit (atleast 2,000 or more if i'm really active) i am satisfied by fruit. i'm not surprised that you're not satisfied by your nutritional program. you're body will crave what it needs and if you don't give it what it needs it will not be satisfied. your body needs simple sugars for fuel. everything you eat is broken down into a simple sugar called a monosaccharide. when you deprive yourself of juicy sweet fruits your body will crave another form of sugar (desserts, candy, complex carbs like potatoes, etc). so eat plenty of sugar in the form of sweet fruits and your energy will return.

at the beginning of the diet i lost water weight, because i cut out salt. i started at 120 lbs. i went down to 110 lbs. and now i'm gaining more weight back in the form of muscle. you will lose any excess weight, but as long as you're eating enough calories you will maintain your healthy weight.

i eat when i'm hungry, usually about every 3-4 hours. if you eat enough fruit to become satiated you won't have any hunger issues. sometimes you will need to eat 10 bananas or a whole watermelon in a sitting. it's great!

found this on another forum. looks like a good list to help with acne:

    1) Eliminate all animal products

    2) Eliminate all refined fats (eg. oils, spreads etc) and eat only whole food sources of fats (eg. avocado, durian etc)

    3) Reduce your fat intake to a maximum of 10% of total calories.

    4) Drink 2-3 litres of water per day, every day.

    5) cut out all alcohol, caffiene, refined sugars (eg. maple syrup, honey, cane sugar, agave, juices etc), recreational drugs, cigarettes and where possible, medications-prescription and OTC...obviously this is between you and your MD.

    6) Eat only fresh produce.

    7) Eat as much raw fresh fruits and vegetables as possible.

    8) If possible, eat organically.

    9) Avoid all cosmetics of any kind.

    10) Avoid all hair dyes and hair products.

    11) Use either lemon juice on your hair, instead of shampoo, or use an organic, natural shampoo.

    12) Chew your food thoroughly.

    13) Don't drink water with your meals. leave 30 minutes before eating, and 2 hours after eating.

    14) Get as much sleep as possible. Make this a priority.

    15) Exercise daily.

    16) Practice deep breathing.

    17) Make sure you get enough nutrients, particularly vitamin A and Zinc.

    18) Preferably use only organic, natural washing powders. If possible use something called "soap nuts" which are the best thing for the environment and your skin.

    19) Wear as natural clothing as possible. Cotton and hemp are the best. These allow your skin to breathe.

    20) Ensure you are meeting your emotional needs. Stress is a major part in skin health. Stress is a sign that you are not meeting your emotional needs.

  • man that list sure doesn't leave much!! from my personal experience my acne issues are most likely hormonal and stress related. i agree that diet can play a large part but i have done everything imaginable as far as cutting out foods, eating certain ways, drinking tons of water, following a strict and 100% natural/organic skin car regimen, etc. sometimes i just want to scream. i did recently have a hormone test done and i am very estrogen dominant and my adrenals are shot. so i will start to do everything i can to get all that back to normal, but i know its going to take a long time because i want to do it using only vitamins and herbs. i just wish things could be more simple. everything these days seems so complex.

so anyhow tukiville, i dont know if you've looked into any hormone tests, but it may be worth a shot. although it does sound like you may just be experiencing detox from all of your dietary changes. either way good luck with it all!
