Diabetes

Some of you know that I'm in a Nutrition class right now. I had a disagreement with my teacher today about the cause of diabetes. I'm a big Dr. Graham believer so I basically said a high fat diet can cause it. Well, my teacher flat out said "no," but I really want to get more information on it. I have a huge research project that I need to start and I want to do it on the cause of diabetes. Any knowledge, books I should read, or tips would be great.

diabetes type 1 is convincingly linked to animal protein consumption at an early age, especially infants drinking cow's milk

It's also been linked to an ingredient in vaccinations, but so hard to prove and not a ton of research has been done or been made public on it. Don't you just love when narrow-minded teachers even refuse to hear anything other than what they believe?!? It is hands-down the worst part of college for me! I read that in a couple vax info books, one in particular was by Dr Stephanie um something, I can't remember her last name right now but the title is What Your Doctor Won't Tell You About Vaccinations. I think its Dr Ben Kim also makes a statement about the cows milk. Here's a few interesting articles I have found since I was diagnosed diabetic in 2003:

http://www.naturalnews.com/008191.html (caused by ingredient in white flour)

    http://www.naturalnews.com/023902.html (caused by vaccinations)

Also look into Dr. Neal Barnard's diabetes research with NIH - probably considered more credible than the websites. I don't know if he goes into causes much, but IIRC, he explains in one of his books that the pancreas produces a certain amount of insulin. When someone is a healthy size/weight, the amount is sufficient. When someone is overweight/high BMI, that same amount of insulin is no longer sufficient to support their increased size.

So while we *say* "the pancreas isn't producing enough insulin," what it really means is "the pancreas isn't producing enough insulin for a person of your abnormal size."

  • its high sugar not high fat that causes it. Many high fat foods are high in carbs so that is maybe where you see similiarities. It has to do with insulin insuffiency or lack of insulin at least for diabetes mellitus. A lot of things can contribute to it but essentially it is a disease of blood sugar regulation issues. The studies of milk problem might cause the type 1 but once you get the diabetes you have a problem with insulin and glucose. I just wrote a paper on it so if you have any other questions feel free to message me.

Maybe try diabetic medical journals, research pancreas, insulin production, auto immune and diabetes, stress and diabetes.

    Type II diabetes?

I have read about the enzyme GnT-4a which is lacking or suppressed in a high fat diet being linked to causing diabetes. but I honestly don't understand why...maybe you can explain it to us too :)

Here's a quote from an article:

Researchers at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine have found that a single gene encoding the enzyme GnT-4a glycosyltransferase (GnT-4a) is key to enabling the pancreatic beta cells to sense blood glucose levels and appropriately produce insulin. They have further demonstrated in mice that this enzyme is suppressed by a high-fat diet. Without enough GnT-4a enzyme, pancreatic beta cell failure occurs, resulting in type 2 diabetes.

    Hope that helps!

Hi, I don't think it's a high fat problem. More a gluten(grains), dairy or refined food (sugar).

Some people on raw paleo zero carb diet eat 80%fat 20% protein and they have no problem with insulin (find lex journal). We are humans not mice!

I don't think people on a raw-food diet (vegan or not) will get diabetic problems.

    Ofcourse my 2 cents 8).

read "the fat of the land" by Vilhjalmur Stefansson is about eskimo's diets.

Here's a good interview with Neal Barnard.

  • Another resource is Gabriel Cousens "There is a cure for Diabetes". He is quite "spiritual" (he talks about our culture of death) but also very scientific--he has actually gotten Type 2's totally off medication. If I remember correctly, he had a group of diabetics (including one type 1) who all were cured of their diabetes. (see Raw for 30 days trailers).

BTW, don't expect your teacher to embrace this new way of thinking. She's been taught the SAC (Standard American CRAP) and most probably is not ready for a paradigm shift. Sorry to sound so negative but that is the impression I get of her. Yet, we must not forget there is always HOPE!! Good luck!!
