Frozen Fruit

Hey guys...i use some frozen fruit in my AM green smoothies, usually something organic and store bought (i.e pre frozen) like blueberries, mango, etc. and bananas that I freeze myself. I just like the frostie texture. My question is does the freezing of the fruit destroy or diminish it's nutritional value? I know that frozen veggies (store bought) are not raw, what about fruits? Aaaannnnd since the frozen water will expand in the fruits cells, does this harm them?


  • Fruit is frozen raw (versus veggies, which are blanched and then frozen). Certainly there is a loss of water and probably some enzymes are deactivated, but frozen fruit is generally considered as nutritious as fresh. Eat in good conscience - though fresh plus an ice cube might give you the same frosty texture!
