Making my own buckwheat flour

edited December 2010 in Food Preparation

just wondering if anyone knows if you can grind buckwheat groats into flour and use them as you would flax powder?

  • Yeah, i do this all the time. Soak buckwheat groats for 8 hours, then drain and rinse very well (until water runs clear) every 1/2 hour for 3-4 hours. Then, you can rinse every 6 hours for the next 24 hours. DO NOT let them sprout any longer- they’ll go bad. It’s very important to exactly follow these instructions.

Then, place buckwheat in dehydrator and dehydrate until dry. Then, grind them in the coffee grinder. They’re a great coating for marinaded veggies!

  • can i not just grind the oat groats?? or must i soak them?

  • biscuit my husband asked the same question to me last night. i think they are too tough and perhaps indigestible if you have not soaked and dried them.
