  • I may have watched too much Discovery Channel, but from what you describe…trip out of the country, tropical area, bad virus, dryness…it sounds like some kinda parasitic infection, or a bacterial infection as others said. Did you go swimming at all? …
  • Meeghan…I’m new to raw, about a month in and probably about 70% raw, depending on the day. I’m also poor! And loved my bread/carby stuff. I’ve found that getting started is where the bulk of money is spent, it was a big chunk for me to get myself a …
  • I got a coconut larabar the other day, tho I haven’t tried it yet. I’m wary because I really don’t care for dates (see my “dates taste like butt” thread). I tried the cashew spirulina raw revolution bar and ended up throwing 3/4 of it out…I just cou…

  • I think there are vegan calcium supplements. They come from coral I think. I take calcium but I think it’s shellfish derived, as I’m not 100% vegan.
  • Are plantains safe to eat raw? I only ask cuz they're traditionally served cooked, whereas bananas are not. Or is that just because they're not as sweet ?
  • durianrider- i agree w/emilyjane...a great and inspired point, but not necessarily entirely feasible for all at any given point. I went to university already for example, therefore i have debt, and unfortunately we can't change the past. you live in…
  • it’s a bug…i think at the mo the site will only let you add recipes with images. so add an image (even if it’s a stock photo of an orange) and it should work. at least that’s the deal according to one of the mods. there’s a thread about it somewhere…
  • Sounds like a good choice to me, ungrateful! My food processor is 500 watts so I bet the blender of that power will do quite well. And the glass is good, no leaching plastic! I don’t know the wattage of mine but it blends spinach with a little water…
  • There are definitely things I can’t do in my blender, but I have a good hand me down Oster that was probably about $50, not a vitamix. It works just fine for green smoothies (I don’t know if it could pass the kale test, but I’m sure I’ll survive). F…
  • Chicory- I’m so sorry to hear what happened to you. huge hugs The amount of that that goes on in this country (or any other country for that matter!) is horrible, it’s just one of the most deplorable things one human can do to another, it makes me s…

  • Queenfluff- I use a brand made by a company called Peru Foods, which also sells quinoa and other South American foodstuffs. They are not mail order and I don’t know if they have a website…I buy it at a local Mexican grocery store. It’s plain yellow …

  • I was in Borders yesterday and actually picked up Rawolution…that Matt Amsden dude is good looking, though way too scrawny for my taste. I’d be more interested if he gained a few pounds and took the facial hair down a few notches. He just kinda look…
  • Thanks everyone for the tips! meloe, what do you mean by just get algae? Like skim it off a pond or something? If so, I would definitely advise against that. I’m not sure how safe that is, as water sources in the wild, no matter how pretty and clean…
  • Really?! Where do they normally keep them in your WF? I mean in a fridge obviously but near what other items?
  • Thanks! Much appreciated :)
  • Personally I would just go and get a salad. You could ask for just oil and vinegar for it. It might not be perfect or have nutrient density of a raw dressing but I doubt that much one time will hurt you. I wouldn’t pass up a job opportunity based on…
  • sid23 Animals do, or at least they should, get pain medicine along with their antibiotics after surgery, just like us. We always prescribed a pain med called Tramadol along with an antibiotic, usually Clavamox, after surgery. Depending on the surger…

  • Most health food stores should have shredded, unsweetened, unsuphured coconut meat. I just saw some at Whole Foods today. It’ll be dehydrated though, not fresh.

  • I had an apple called an Eve’s Delight at the Union Square Greenmarket in NYC once…it was huge, the size of a large grapefruit, and the sweetest, most delicate, perfectly crisp, clean tasting apple I’d ever eaten. I’ve never seen them anywhere else …

  • I’m excited to try the persimmons! According to what I read they’re not ripe yet and are very sour if eaten before ripening. Alot are falling off the tree though so I’ll guess I’ll just pick the ripest and let them hang out on the kitchen table for …
  • Queenfluff…I just looked up Oregon grapes…you’re right, they’re definitely not them. Shiny dark smooth appearence, not dusted blue, and the leaves are totally different…the Oregon grape leaves look kinda like holly leaves. BUT, in my wikipedia-ing t…
  • Thank you guys! I just looked up persimmon and yup, that’s them! Through one of the pages I looked up wild apples and crabapples, and I’m pretty sure the little brownish green fruits are unripe wild apples. ungrateful The dark berries grow in a grap…
  • I seem to get the same reaction to persimmon…my mouth starts to feel like cotton balls. It’s really bizarre.
  • Glad I could provide some giggles. :D Truly, if you’d seen my face eating the thing, it may have provoked hysterical laughter. Thanks for assuring me I’m not kicked out of the club and giving some suggestions. I went shopping an an AMAZING organic c…
