  • Newbie makes me think of the other day, when I had a craving for peas and corn mix. I was lucky enough to have found some sweet corn on the cob(fresh) at the store and already had some sprouted green peas at home. So I made a sort of hideous butter …

  • I know some raw foodists advocate commercial frozen veggies but they are almost always blanched first. They really do need to be blanched before freezing or they turn into a dark mush. Assume organic frozen veggies like Cascadian are blanched, also.…

  • So far, alfalfa and chickpeas.
  • Be careful with the amount of protein, Hippie Chick. Bear in mind that the enormous amounts of proteins that are recommended are “pushed” by the meat industry. There is nothing to substantiate that humans need these vast quantities of protein. You’l…

  • Topcat, did you put the almonds and water in the fridge from the first day? Or did you soak them for a period of time and then put them in the fridge? That is awesome you grew it so far!

  • Oh, great! So if the sunflower seeds split open, then they are alive. I saw that some of mine were split open. Yay!! (you’re talking about soaking hulled seeds, right?)
in Sprouting almonds Comment by TomsMom
  • Darn. Okay, thank you, RawVoice! Now I’m doubting this huge bag of hulled sunflower seeds I bought to substitute for almonds. Well, dang.

  • 123, would a “dead” almond also swell up with soaking? I”m trying to find out if any almonds I buy are really raw.

  • Oh, okay, haha, I guess I’m too stinking impatient. The next time I get some raw almonds, I’m going to try again and be more patient.
in Sprouting almonds Comment by TomsMom
  • I tried a while ago and never saw sprouts, even after 4 days. I peeled the skin and looked, too and no go. They swelled up, but I have no idea if this means the nut is viable.

  • This is basic netiquette, not to mention that I clearly stated what the dangers are to the hosting site. But I’ll try to keep it simple. When the Google bots skim a site and see content without reason, i.e., streams of words with no recognized meani…
  • The problem with this kind of spamming is that Google can stop/block their ads based on it. It’s not considerate of the site owner. I guess they don’t care and I certainly won’t support any site that does this to another site for their own benefit.
  • Oh, my goodness, I know you’re trying to help spread the word, but as a moderator of several large sites, this is spamming. This can cause this website to loose their advertisers! Google checks for this sort of posting. Believe me, I know.

  • Naturegal28, I can commiserate! I don’t want to tell you how my raw eggplant dish from last week turned out. My mouth couldn’t recognize it as food, uckkkkkkth!

  • aleta, I came back because I just finished screaming at my writing partner for no reason, and realized I was very very snippy at you, too. I’m sorry, hun:*( I’ll edit my post.
  • Editsorry for my snippiness, aleta. I didn’t say that cooked foods did not smell good to me. I said that it took me a month to a month and a half until the raw foods diet was second nature.
  • About a month to a month and a half. It helped me a lot when I went from 80 percent raw to 100 percent. (except for my tea)
  • I always have sprouted hummus and tomatoe-basil “cream” soup in the fridge! Both are easy and fast to make once a week. I also just created a nice sunflower seed “butter” to keep on hand for fast and easy sauce and dip bases. Last night I just grabb…

  • The temperature of steam is very high, much more than 118. Some folks warm their foods in double-boilers or dehydrators though. With the later, I guess you could go by touch or use a candy thermometer. When I used to make yogurt, I used touch to mak…

  • Wow, queenfluff, congratulations!! I agree with newbie; don’t worry about their need for food or water. They need quiet and relatively dim lighting. It’s rare for a cat to even want a litter box during a trip, at least not until night. When you stop…
  • Thank you, Joyce:-) I love her to death! She’s been on raw for over a year now. What a change! On the hidden hard-wood floors: one of my girlfriends tore up her nasty carpeting in her home and found that, too! Beautiful wood floors. Unfortunately, t…
  • Gwenz3, I’ll definately consider the white vinegar solution! JoyceH: Ideally, I’d love to have these disgusting carpets torn out, but the “house” I mentioned is actually an apartment and it’s subsidized. Stupid rules about having a carpet. But I do …
  • I agree with Bluedolfin on the salt baths. I swear I don’t stink anymore when I sweat, never! I don’t use conventional DEOs, either, just salt. In addition to the salt in the bath water, if I am really sweaty, I use a bath salt bar to rub under my p…

  • Unfortunately, stibizi, there is no way to avoid hurting animals for our vegan food. Especially with harvesting, animals are killed in enormous numbers, whether it is nori or grain.
  • Nori that is clean and has been sorted to exclude sealife does not taste like fish at all. If it tastes like fish, it’s because it contains fish. The only way to avoid it is to go by 1) reputation and 2) taste. My experience is to go by taste becaus…
  • Lol, I love this thread! About a month and a half into my detox, the same thing happened to me, for no reason! The only thing I can think of for my case is that I started to add raw broccoli to my noon salads at that time, also. I think broccoli bel…
  • Okay, give it more time. I spent the first two months being hungry all the time, wow! Especially bad because I’ve been a compulsive eater all my life. But the last month, things are easing up and I’m becoming more satisfied, even with less food. I w…

  • Maybe you’re not eating enough. You didn’t say how much you were eating. If you eat green leaves all day and no fat, no fruits sugars, you’re going to be hungry. Extreme low calorie diets equal hunger. What is your typical day like in food?
