  • Actually, lulushka8, there are no Candida Albicans in it, or at least that’s what the label says. Maybe I’m wrong?
  • geespeen, like you I LOVE nutritional yeast, especially combined with dulse in my ginormous salads. Last night I even put it on the veggie chili dish. I don’t plan on giving it up as it adds an extra “pizzazz” to my food that keeps me from getting b…
  • Johnny, I’m sorry you’re going through this today, and I understand what you mean by “the soul cleaning itself.” I won’t offer any mindless, hackneyed platitudes, but will send you hugs and energy. I don’t really “know” you, but your loving spirit a…
  • RawDance, I have to say whether you are speaking about raw foods or eating disorders, that you are extremely articulate and clear, without judgment and coming (obviously) from a place of experience. I do agree with you that the show deliberately emp…
  • Exactly, Bluedolfin! Yes, my question was definitely rhetorical (though Stossel appears to be the guy with all the rhetoric). Of course they went with “the nutty guy”, having no real interest in actually looking at the topic in a nuanced, multifacet…
  • Johnny, you did extremely well, and I think you were very brave to appear not knowing how they would edit you. For those of you who don’t know, John Stossel is an extreme conservative who is not exactly fair in his reporting. Waterbaby, it isn’t you…
  • I just DVR’d it Johnny. I’ll definitely watch.
  • Thanks Winona, I was able to read the article. Heather, your friend Brian is amazing. I would like to access his myspace page and will try again.
  • heather, can you retype the link? I’m having trouble with it and can’t seem to cut and paste. In the meantime, I’m sending lots of love his way.
  • Thank you, Winona. I’d also like to echo much of what you wrote re: reducing my carbon footprint since joining this community. We are also building an off the grid, hydropowered small place in upstate NY. It won’t be our primary residence (for now),…

  • Oh wow. I just woke up, turned on the computer and read all your comments. What a way to start my day! To Carmentina, Bluedolfin, shansraw, springleaf and Johnny: Thanks for your loving thoughts, hugs and good wishes. You really give me energy to fa…

  • Hey, I almost died from listening to ELO :). But seriously, I have thought of this too (remember the study in the ‘70’s that said plants/flowers “screamed” when picked?). I don’t know what to think, because really, what will be left to eat? I guess …
  • Pleeeeaaase don’t get me started on this. I work with kids with a range of speech-language disorders and you should see the crap that many of them eat. I don’t see food as a cure all, but how about just supporting the body/brain with good nutrition …
  • Breathatrians, oh I just don’t get that at all. Maybe that’s MY limitation, just saying :). And I completely get why fasting doesn’t work for you. Like you, it also tied into and triggered my eating disorder, and to this day I’m not willing to try i…

  • TheRawDance, thank you for posting those very cogent comments on fasting. Very good info especially as many people on the site do fast. Personally, I’ve never done well with it on a psychological level, particularly as I too have a history of eating…

  • Bravo! Keep up the great work!!!
  • Now I’m confused. The Artisana coconut butter is not the same as coconut oil, but has a much firmer consistency with oil generally rising to the top. I’ve also made this type of “butter” using coconut flakes and coconut oil in the food processor. Wh…

  • TheRawDance, like you, I also wouldn’t take meds for reflux. I found that cutting out nuts and eating lots of greens eventually got rid of it (and oh, man, it was bad!). I guess with nuts its the combination of acidity and fat that can get you.
  • Heather, I believe it was me who recommended the book (and maybe Joyce H as well). It’s so funny you brought this up today. I’ve been going through a really tough time lately and listened to “101 Power Thoughts for Life” on my ipod for the first tim…

  • Here’s a link to rawguru that gives both pics and a video demonstration of how to open a young coconut. It changed my coconut world! http://www.rawguru.com/html/openyoungcoconut.html
  • Thanks, TomsMom! I am faithful in getting a yearly mammo, partially because I’m not great at doing the self breast exam. I would definitely encourage you to get your lump checked out (and believe me, I know it’s scary). It’s probably nothing, and wo…

  • Well, look what I found on Yahoo tonight—apparently a new and more sensitive tool than both mammo and MRI. Check it out: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080903/ap_on_he_me…

  • Thanks for the lovely thoughts, simplyraw. And I do appreciate the links you listed, as everyone should be informed about whatever medical procedure they undergo. Never take anything at face value in the allopathic medical world!

  • Thanks, simplyraw. Unfortunately, an MRI did NOT catch the fibroadenoma I had, so no system is infallible. I do recognize the risks in getting a mammogram, but self examination is not a perfect system either. I do think it’s a gamble, but I will con…

  • artzyfartzy, I’m so glad you’ve been in the clear, and that you’ve been vigilant about your health. I’m also very happy to get more feedback about this. This raw journey has been amazing (though not always easy) in so many ways. Glad I have all of y…

  • Good luck, omshanti. The mammo not as bad as everybody says—just mildly uncomfortable. I have a feeling you’ll ace that and your physical. Raw really does awesome things to the body!

  • Well, Fee, I got me some bananas too, so I’ll throw everything in! Thanks!
