  • I remember reading the PETA information many years ago. However, seeing it again gives me chills! There are so many alternatives to honey, and factory farming is absolutely dreadful.
  • I peel the bananas, break them in half, and put them into a Rubbermaid container. When it’s time to use them, they come apart pretty easily with the help of a chef’s knife.
  • I use coconut oil too. And you can buy small travel containers (i.e at hiking/camping stores), and keep some in the office, car, etc.
  • Renee’s book is good, and I also second 12 Steps to Raw. I might also suggest “Rawsome” by Brigitte Mars. It’s similar to Renee’s book. Many raw people have an area of focus, i.e. mostly whole fruits, or nuts, or smoothies. I tend to favor sprouts, …

  • I’ve come to learn that I can’t keep nut butters in the house. Once I start with just a little, it becomes an addiction…. and not much later, a good portion of the jar is gone! However, I do believe in the need for nuts and seeds in a raw diet. They…

  • spiritedmama – Nice website with lots of interesting soy facts! For 12 years, I ate lots of soy nearly every day, in my cooked vegan life. Soy had always seemed like the ultimate health food. These studies must have been well hidden from the general…

  • I’ve been sprouting soybeans. I soak overnight, & then after another day, they get little tails. However, I just did a google search on them, & some people say they aren’t healthy. I sure enjoy the way they taste, but this Dr. Melcola is rea…

  • bluedolfin – thanks for starting the new thread! I like the ground flax idea to make the mock rice stick together better. [Last night, I made another batch of dehydrated veggie sunburgers. It’s the flax that holds everything together.] For the rice …
  • bluedolfin – we should probably start a separate sushi thread, since there’s so much to discuss! But I’ll say a few things here, before I run out of the house. I just bought 200 sheets of untoasted nori, so I’ve been experimenting. I tried cauliflow…

  • I use scallions in sushi rolls. Put cauliflower in the food processor. Spread on nori rolls as “mock rice,” leaving the top 1.5 inches empty (for the final seal). Then put scallions inside (plus whatever else you have—i.e. carrots, sprouts, celery).…

  • frzzzn – thanks for the reply. I thought perhaps this happens to others too. rawjoy – a scientific explanation…. great…. makes sense to me. I had a little more sickness in the morning, but it’s out of my system now. I’ve always been a sucker for fre…
  • Hi gymbum— This is the raw food stove. It’s like drying food in the sun, but faster. You can make flax seed bread, cookies, dried fruits, etc. check out http://www.excaliburdehydrator.com/ Excalibur is the top one that all the raw books recommend. M…

  • My receding gumlines are minor, but I’m concerned that if it continues, more issues with arise down the road. I’ve gathered “tips” from my dentist with each visit over the years. Here are all of the things I do (based on her advice): 1. Swish some s…

  • Please make sure that your baby gets adequate B12. Soy baby formula would work if breast milk or regular formula are no longer options. There’s a lot of inaccurate information about B12 in vegan & raw circles. I suggest reading “Could It Be B12?…

  • I never had any detox issues. I was vegan before, so maybe that helped. Detox things may or may not happen for you. Going slowly can help. You don’t have to go 100% raw overnight.

  • Last night, I made sushi rolls, but used grated jicama, instead of rice. Not long ago, I didn’t know what jicama was, but it’s really good. Over time, your taste buds will change, & you’ll discover many amazing new foods. And with a dehydrator, …
  • I’d like to know if any of the “special” doctors are associated with the big HMOs. I have a regular internist, because I thought that the naturopaths wouldn’t be covered. Please let me know if anyone has found success with this under an HMO plan.
  • Shane—6’2” and 140 seems very thin. I’m 6’4”, and my weight over the years ranged from 168 to 192 (midpoint 180). I increase nuts and other fatty foods when I get below 175.
  • Hi Joey, Welcome! I just traveled 800 miles north to attend a yoga teacher training near you (in Val-Morin). I had a short stay in Montreal along the way. I was wondering if there are any raw restaurants in Montreal. cheers, ron

  • Raw can be very cheap. For example, you don’t need expensive goji berries or hemp protein powder. Also, try sprouting your own mung beans (to save $$ for example—about $1.50 per pound @ Whole Foods bulk bin). They grow in two days & you can use …
  • I like to use superfoods too, but I don’t think they are really necessary from a health standpoint. Organic raw veggies & fruits are so good for you, & if you’re 100% raw, your body/mind should be very happy. However, it’s fun to experiment …
  • . Cuisinart and KitchenAid both make high quality food processors. I use the smallest model (3 cup for $40, “S” blade only—i.e. no slicing). Look on amazon.com for the sizes and features of different models.

  • I find the labeling discussion very interesting. I don’t really like labels either, because it’s never quite 100%. It’s maybe 100%, 95% of the time, or maybe it’s never ever 100%, but 98%. So we say “vegan” or “raw” for simplicity sake to help peopl…
