Is brown rice raw?

I have believed that brown rice is not really raw because it is heated during the processing, but am I wrong?

I know that brown rice can be sprouted. Does it mean that brown rice is considered raw if it is eaten raw? Or is it considered raw (or living) food only when it is sprouted? I would appreciate it very much if someone can clarify this for me.

Thank you.

    No, it's not raw.

Most dry brown rice is sproutable, and hence (obviously) raw. However, it will stay very crunchy unless you cook it, so I can't imagine why you'd want to eat it raw. You could sprout and then use it to make raw rice milk, though.

  • superfood2 and ambiguous, thank you very much for answering my question.

quinoa is much easier to eat sprouted. and it's a seed, not a grain.

I think it depends on quality of rice! I have an interesting article for you about choice of the best brown rice https://diligentchef.com/best-brown-rice-brand/
They have a lot of info and comparison by price. I think it can be useful

This would be my preference too. Quinoa rocks!
