salad dressings

are there any good substitutes for oils in salad dressings? I’m always looking for a great salad dressing but often they’re very oil heavy and the taste of the oil is overwhelming.

    Banana is amazing for this.

Try 3 bananas, 3 cloves garlic, 1/3 cup Raw Apple Cider Vinegar, 1/2 tablespoon salt all into the blender. Very thick, you can thin with water or toss it into your salad instead of putting it on top.

    Enjoy, Chris

I’ve also seen recipes using cucumbers or tomatoes as the base or replacement for the oils.

  • Hi- This is a great topic – I have been wondering the same thing. I blended cucumber, garlic a little oil and lemon and was suprised how well it worked out. I will definitely try the bananas- that sounds wild! They’d probably be good with raspberry too!

  • Chris, thanks so much! The banana idea sounds delicious! The cucumber sounds like it would work well as a direct replacement because the taste would hide behind the other flavors.

Yup, cucumber and sunflower make a great dressing! ...along with some spices and a sweetener. Then there’s the Avocado Kale Salad that uses avocado dressing.

  • I tried the banana dressing today but added cilantro, lime, black pepper and cumin for a taco type salad, it was great! The banana added a little sweetness but did overwhelm everything with banana flavor. Chris, thanks for the tip!
