Raw bans are toxic. The most toxic are red kidney beans and its relatives (i.e. pinto). Never eat these. Others are toxic as well, but perhaps still beneficial in other ways. That's why chickpeas will give you gas. Red kidney beans, however, will make you ill.

What about sprouted adzuki beans? I've never sprouted beans before but I'm told this is a good one?

Its pretty small. It seems that the smaller the bean, the less its toxicity. I sprout mung beans which I do well with, and recently learned of these adzuki beans which I might experiment with. The wikipedia article says its popularity is second to the soybean.
