Coconut Oil Question

Does anyone have links or references to research on coconut oil? I’m not looking for a miracle food, as one book claims. I’m just trying to find out if the cold-processed coconut oil I love so much is good for my family. All the research I can find identifies it as a harmful saturated fat, but makes no distinction between cooked and raw. Any references you have will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Coconut oil is magic! I found this the first attempt I made: http://www.coconutoil.com/ It is wonderful though! I use it mostly externally (hair, face, body, everything!) and it’s amazing, I also put it in my smoothies sometimes. I love it.

  • Thanks Morning_theft, I did go to that site, but have been looking for scientific research by impartial parties, without success. The hunt continues!

Ok, ok, here are some more, tell me if they’re helpful: http://www.mercola.com/2001/jul/28/coconut_heal… http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/coconut-oil-... http://www.alternative-healthzine.com/html/0108…

Are any of these any good? I know they’re all pro-coconuts, but the ones that aren’t are just “saturated fat is bad.” So I didn’t wanna bother.

  • Yikes, I didn’t mean for you to do so much work! Thank you for those sites. I’m GLAD they’re pro-coconuts, and intuitively I just can’t believe unprocessed coconut oil, in moderation, is bad for us.

I guess I just got annoyed because I was reading a book, “The Coconut Oil Miracle”, and it seemed so extreme. I figured there must be some geeky source out there to corroborate some of the claims.

As for conventional science, so much of it is way behind on nutrition. I’m going to research some of the sources endnoted in the book.

    Thanks again!
