Orange juice fast/flush.Have you done it?

LucyLucy Raw Newbie

Has anyone done the orange juice fast/flush ?Storm from the garden diet has an e-book about it,2 weeks of orange juice. I was thinking in buying the book but I don’t know, too much sugar and I’ve heard that it is hard on your teeth too. What do you think and know about it ?

  • I tried that once, I had a terrible candida reaction ( not a detox ). It took me a couple of weeks of no fruit to get myself back into balance. I think like everything else, it works for some people and not for others. It was too much sugar for me.

Thanks Spirit.I was thinking about that. When I went to Brasil to see my mother,in June,I did a fruit kind of diet/flush.I ate only fruit and I got so angry, excited, completly crazy.I was doing the 8/1/1 style of diet and that didn’t work for me.I believe that you have to excersise a lot doing a fruit fast/diet.Maybe it is for athetes. But I heard so much about the orange juice fast that I wanted to have some oppinions. Thanks a lot.

If you’re going to eat only or mostly fruit, you have to ‘earn it’ with a lot of exercise. I personally can’t tolerate fruit unless I work out before. I don’t really see the harm of course, exercise is essential in my book.

    Hi Morning_theft,
you are wright, though I walk 1 hour every day,but I think needs more than walk when we eat a lot of fruit.

Seems like orange juice is too acidic for a fast/flush. Same for tomato juice. A friend of mine recommends a concord grape juice fast. I have only tried it for one day… but I plan to try it sometime for several days.

Hi germin8,I’ve heard about grape juice. Maybe I’ll try that instead.
At least it’s less sugary than oranges. But it is grape season right now?

  • Why would you need to balance fruit with exercise?

Don’t get me wrong, I love to exercise. I’m just confused as to its relation to fruit.

  • For most people it is to burn off the glucose and maintain a stable blood sugar.

  • Seems to be some confusion on the ‘too much fruit’ thing. If the total fat
in the diet is 10% or less then the insulin cranked out by the pancreas can do its job re sugar..The excess fat in the blood prevents the insulin from doing its job. This is backed up by 20 years of experience & research in Dr Grahams book 80-10-10. Seems as if many raw fooders are consuming up to 70% of their daily intake in various fats -and having lots of seemingly ‘sugar’ problems because of it . Excess fat in the blood is also the culprit behind candida ‘bloom’.

I had hypogicemic problems as a teenager and too much fruit sugar for me isn’t good. When I make myself a glass of apple juice I get dizzy all day,but looks like I don’t have too much problem with oj.
Citric fruits are better for juicing I believe, and apple is a semi-citric.Maybe a mono diet like only oj would be ok,because when I had many kind of fruit diet I got a lot of energy. Also, exercising is a good way to maintain a stable blood sugar as Spirit said.

  • i sure hope he isnt talking about orange juice like tropicana or something. even fresh sqeezed oj i cant see fasting on that either. if you are going to fast just let your body do what it needs to and fast on water. alot of the problem is we “think” were gonna to “fix” ourselves with this or that and what happens we mess it up even more. your body knows what to do ,let it. and you will get better

  • Oh geez. I did not know abut this fruit ratio. My diet is like 85-90% fruit and the rest nuts and greens. So the bottomline is to balance fruit and excersize or the pancreas works too hard?
(Sorry I don’t quite get it)

  • Hi Lucy,

I listened to Brian Clement at RawSummit2 last Sunday and he advises only green juice fasting and sprouting juice fasting. Fruit juice fasting (f.e. orange juice fasting) is far too sugarry and can cause severe side-effects, such as bad bloodsugar levels, candida, ... He doesn’t recommend water fasting either because water slows metabolism, which makes you feel more weak and gives a deficiency of B12.

    For green juice fasting:
watercress, cucumbre, broccoli, parsley, celery, kale, spinach

    For sprouting juice fasting:
wheatgrass sprouts, green pea sprouts, sunflower sprouts

You can of course combine these two kinds of juices.
