Mature coconuts

I live in Northern BC, Canada and unfortunately cant convince any store to bring in young coconuts ( by the time they get here they are rotten) or so they say. I also cannot afford to order from the internet cause by the time they get here are like $10 per coconut!!! A little too pricey for me. I was wondering if you can use mature ones in place for young in all recipes. And if so, how? Thanks!

  • mature coconut has its uses mainly for thick coconut flesh, which can be used to make coconut milk. Flesh can be eaten on its own. But it’s consumption should be moderate as it’s heavy and difficult to digest. The same is true with it’s water.

Do you ever visit Vancouver? If so just stock up on the ones they sell at Capers. They cost $2 each and I’m guessing you can freeze the meat and water.

  • Not sure where Capers is but I go to Vancouver once a year. I live about 17 hours drive North of there so I am really out of the way!!! But thanks and I’ll keep that in mind. Jaclyn.
