sprouting

I am new to eating live foods and was wondering the best way to sprout quinoa, lentils, spelt or any other grains. I tried leaving it out overnight but I do not know if bacteria will develop. Should I leave things in the fridge or on the counter? Any advice would be so helpful.

  • Sprouts need a little warmth to germinate the seed, so leaving it on the counter is good. Check out www.sproutpeople.com, they give instructions for all types of sprouts as far as soak times, and how long to let them sprout before eating. Some people rinse their seeds with peroxide water to reduce the risk of bacteria, but I never have. Happy sprouting!

  • I leave mine on the conter or windowsill. If yo reglarly rinse the seeds I think you shouldn’t worry about the bacteria. But if you want to be sure I heard that people add some vitamin C powder to the soaking water. (You can buy it in pharmacies)
